I have almost finished rebuilding my Dad's old 12" craftsman Bandsaw
Thank you Stacy and Michael!!
My question is one of speed. The original spec's call for
2" motor drive pulley and a 5" secondary pulley
This will reslt in 640 RPM's I found a SFM calculator but it made no
sense to me. I must buy a new secondary pulley. What is a good
overall speed for cutting hardwoods like we use.?

A 6" pulley drops the speed to about 580 rpm
A 4" wheel speeds it up to 875 rpm
Thanks Y'all

Based on your rpms I am assuming the motor speed to be 1600 rpm 640 x 5/2=1600

At 640 rpm is 2000 fpm for a 12" diameter wheel (the one your blade rides on)
580 is 1800
875 is 2730

I assume you wheel is not much larger than 12" is so multiply 2000 x wheel diameter/12 will give you the new fpm.

Most wood cutting are in the 3000 fpm range so you should be fine with a 5" pully

1750 x 3.14 x (14"/12) x 2/5=2562 fpm, right in the range assuming 14' wheel which is most likely
