Hey guys, I am going to be building a syngas forge soon. Has anyone else done this? Will it get hot enough to forge steel? Am I crazy?

Wood gas for heating is one thing, but it will have to be pressurized and delivered at a rate fast enough to mix in a blower for a forge.

If you have enough gas flow, set up a blown burner and feed the wood gas to it. See if it gets a good enough flame, compared to running the burner on propane. That should tell you if it will run a forge ( which I doubt).

One concern I would also have is the possibility of back pressure into the gas line causing air to enter the gasification chamber. That could be a bad thing.
