All it said was exotic wood blocks they are
1.5x1.5x12

so im no wood expert but i will post my guess and how sure i am

1st pic Paduak ( 70% sure)
2nd pic zircote (80% sure)
3rd pic not even sure enough to guess
4th pic cocobolo (80% sure)

I am not an expert on cocobolo so i am not to sure on the origin.

Thanks for the help I had no idea what they could be. They was sold as turning blank grab bag so wasnt sure what I was getting butt it's enough to make a lot of handles

Is number 3 heavy and feel waxy?
If it does and then when you cut it the saw dust looks gold and then turns green when exposed to sunlight,
then it "might" be Lignum Vitae.

# 3and 4 are heavy and all of the pieces where coverd in a thick coat of wax when I got them I scraped most of it off to take pics. Don't know why they had wax on them unless it was to seal them until they are used

third one looks like lignum vitae to me too.
Oh, and there's some pine or fir in each pic as well. ;)

The first to me looks like blood wood
Second ziricote
third go with Mark on this one but hard to tell.
Fourth looks like some shedua Ive got which in turn looks like bocote depending on the piece but I would guess shedua.

The pine or fir looks like it is dry and ready to use.
But.....since the blocks were sealed in wax they may not be all the way dry.
A lot of the time with turning wood it is cut green then coated with parafin wax.
That is to keep it from drying out too quick and cracking.
I would be sure to remove all the wax and let them sit a while before using them. But if they start cracking after you remove the wax they were still green.
If you don't plan to use them this year, just put them on a shelf as is.
If there is a woodworker around with a moisture meter, it would be nice if they were under 12% moisture content.

Yes It looks like they were dipped in wax I'll remove it and let them sit for a while.
Thanks for the help guys

I would keep the end grains wax intact until use. Just scrape off the wax off all four of the long sides.

Also if it is cocobolo be careful some ppl get a bad reaction to the oils inside of it.

I really like #4 =) nice buy. have fun!

There are some sweet looking forged high compression pistons for what appears to be a small block Ford motor? 289/302 with twisted wedge heads?? Its obscured by some weird wood of some sort...

Ha ha your rite about high compression pistons butt no fords in this shop there for a big block chevy in my toyImageUploadedByTapatalk1389758836.334200.jpg

Number one could be redheart, Brazilian rosewood, or ? It has the grain of a mahogany but is too red. Number 2 could be Arizona desert ironwood. Number 3 probably is desert ironwood and number 4 cocobolo. I have collected for my use at least 200 pairs of scales of all types of exotic woods but it is anyone's guess from photographs. I could smell the ironwood if ground but the other ones are guesses on my part.

Sorry, I couldn't see anything but the slugs. My Lightning could use some of those (only low comp for the boost).

Seriously though, the blanks look nice. A fellow member recommended those to me for my small knives. Those look like a good size.

Nice chevy. For some reason the fly cuts looked like smallie Ford twistes wedge jobs. We are chevy owners here too, but work on whatever pays.
My oldest buddy just got rid of his 72 Nova... no pics...
Jist finished neighbors 61 bubble top w/BB

My 64 and my driveway is in the background... Its still a 20 footer, but fun to drive. Bored 400 with a TH350.
I bought a mustang in high school and you'd have thought I knocked up a cheerleader. Nearly got me kicked out...

As for the wood... well, its too exotic to ring any bells with me.

Sorry to irritate anyone by straying off topic. I don't go to the car forums anymore, too many tools... so I have to release somehow... hah.
