A disease introduced into a variety of conifers by bark beetles. A the fungus grows, it blocks the sap flow, which eventually kills the tree. The damage can be seen in the wood of the tree, hence the name "blue stain" fungus. There is no treatment for this disease..well its not a conifer--Mark

Where did it come from?

I've cut a ton of buckeye and it looks like that to me. I'm not absolutely sure though. Do you have buckeye in Georgia?

Buckeye is surprisingly light weight when it's dry. That may be one thing to confirm or rule out.

Hello , well i researched for awhile and i found a species of buckeye called painted buckeye or more commonly known as Georgia buckeye. I have experience with buckeye burl but I did not know the blue coloring extended into the sap and heart. There is also another buckeye that extends to south to upper northern GA called yellow buckeye also known as sweet buckeye. Im excited to have found another species here in Georgia-now to see if anything desireable comes of it. There is some nice " feathering" in the crotch areas, so ill see how it looks after the bandsaw gets a hold of it along with some sanding.--Thank You for your responses-Mark
