wood-inlaid Sebenza, Mayo TNT, or Darrel Ralph EDC?

Supposing I wanted my next knife to be a step UP from my Sebenza (to what degree is this possible?), on which of these three would my money be best spent?

Dan

P.S. -- I've been hanging out on this forum and researching knives long enough now that I can identify most production folders from major companies in an instant (cool!). For instance, I was watching Fight Club on DVD last night, and in the scene where the cops are trying to cut off Ed Norton's balls in the investigation room, one of the officers whips out a Spyderco Endura which you see for half a second.

That was an Endura?
I thought it was a stainless handle Police.

I have a small classic that is my daily carry. I've identified 3 other knives which I "must" have to supplement the Sebbie. DDR EDC, TNT, Carson M4. I think that I'll buy them in that order.

If these are the knives on your "short list" then you can't make a bad decision. I own a couple of Sebenza's and the Umfaan. CRK produces excellent knives.

The wood Sebenza's are Awesome but, prices start at $500+. When I start researching knives in that market, I'm looking at customs.

I hope to place an order for a TNT after the first of the year :D. You'll probably get them all sooner or later so ;) ...

If you're like me, sooner or later you'll probably have them all if you like these knives. Personally I'd take the EDC or TNT over the wood inlay Sebenza which is a bit too pricey for my taste. Plus you get more options available with customs - Tom will drill the handles anyway you like!

Hi, with all due respect for the knives C.R.K & Darrell Ralph make, my choice would be a T.N.T.

The Sebenza is probably the best Semi-Production knife out there & Darrell Ralph's knives are fantastic, but my experience with my T.N.T. has been mindboggling.

The fit, finish, & quality in Tom's knives shine! I am very picky about my knives & can spot a flaw a mile away on a knife. But my T.N.T. passed with flying colors! Also the Talonite really surprised me. I've never seen a material cut the way it does.

Overall: If you were going to buy ONE knife to carry for the rest of your life & pass on to one of your children, get a T.N.T. :D

Well so much for that idea! I guess I could be wrong, because I didn't rewind it or stop the frame or anything, but I semi-distinctly remember a black handle. Although if you say it was a stainless handle you're probably right, because you wouldn't forget or mistake something that distinct. I am sure about one thing though: The blade on the Police model is longer and narrower than the Endura's, and I distinctly remember the blade in the movie being stout like the Endura. Correct me if I'm wrong.

And on the original topic, how is Talonite different from, say, BG-42 in terms of hardness, stain resistance, and edge retention? What about 440V? (I realize this is an entirely different topic now.)

Well, as the owner of both a large damascus woodie and a couple of Darrel's EDC's, the decision is easy for me, the Mayo TNT :D Although I would probably opt for 420V or Damascus rather than the Talonite and shoot for about a 3 1/2" blade length.

If I didn't own any of these models and was going to purchase just one, I would have to say that the DDR EDC in carbon fiber is one tough act to follow. A lean, mean cuttin' machine. Not to bad on the eyes either. I much prefer this version to the IBL models. Just feels better in the hand.

If you're spending $500+, talk to a maker and get a knife made especially for you, with all of the little touches that you want. Darrel and Tom are two great ways to get you there.

You're paying the price of admission - why buy "off the rack", regardless of how nice a rack it is?

...I just ordered another and am going to sell Sebenzas to pay for it!!!:)

CF EDC gets my vote, too. Feels better in my hand than any knife I've handled (IBL Apogee feels great, too, but a little slim). I'd like to try a TNT, though. Only seen pictures, and they're tip-down only, so that kind of kills it for me.
