Wood or Bone

I tried a search for info on this but didn't have much luck with BF's search facility (just got an empty white screen whenever i tried).
Anyway prior to me ordering my Chiruwa AK (my mouth waters typing that:rolleyes: ) I have one last question; for a working knife which is the better handle material, wood or bone? Maybe there is not much difference but being no expert I don't know and hence the question.
Opinions or advice would be great.
 
We just had a thread on this. I bet it's not archived but if you search the recent history you'll see it. I also assume you mean, Wood or Horn, not bone.

I don't think it makes much difference in the chiruwa style which material you choose. The handle slabs don't get the stress the traditional handle does.

Thanks Munk, appreciate the fast respnse. I saw one thread on caring for wood handles which was quite useful but couldn't find any others. Maybe i'm blind or maybe I'm just a bit cabbage on the forum tools. Oh and yeah totally right; i did mean horn rather than bone. I think wood looks like the way to go at the moment though. Also you make a good point re the C AK as with it's thick tang the handle materials probably aren't gonna suffer to much stress.
 
i prefer the smell of wood dust to bone dust.... not sure if that helps... only really applies if your intending to sand on it....
 
Generaly, wood is given the nod for superior strength. I like both horn and wood.
You have to care for both, though, hard use and climate take a toll.

Seriously, I haven't had problems with either kind. There's a crack in the horn handle, I bought it that way, as promised "it is going nowhere" :)

You can't go wrong with either one. It depends on what you like, I guess. The horn often comes polished too smooth for my taste, but that's very easy to fix, if it bothers you. 4/0 steel wool is the easiest way. I like to work on all handles a bit to clean up the lines and level things out. Not as necessary recently, as the kamis seem to be on top of that issue more.
You're gonna love whatever you decide to get;)
