Ive gotten to where I just brush hooflex on horn and just leave it on until im ready to use it or it starts to collect dust. Then I just wipe it off and reapply. They seem happy that way. I do the same to wood with mineral oil and BLO mix but never have to wipe it off because the wood absorbs it completely and can use them as is. It dont take much. If you wipe your collection down every month or two or three... I doubt you would ever have any problems. One thing to consider is if you ever want to sell some blades you wont get as much for them if they are blemed (is that a word?).
Heres what I use for my wood (good for horn too).
Its made for wiping down and cleaning up guitars so its good for wood and carbon steel like strings. Its mostly mineral oil anyway. Once it dried up I added mineral oil and BLO mix and works great for convenience. Theres a little rag it comes with you can stuff it in the bottom of the canister to hold more oil and the pad on the stick stays oily. I think ive had to add oil to it maybe once a year. My dog ate it a few weeks ago so Im just going to make me one using rolled up denim and a medicine bottle or something. I just leave it with my collection next to the hooflex and makes it very convenient. I wouldnt go out and buy one again ($6) id just make one but the package idea is great. Great on my guitar also
