I'm attempting to make my own knife scales out of a hard wood. I already purchased it and want to know how to treat the wood but keep the color and wood grain. Any information helps. Thanks

You will need to sand to at least 600 grit. The finish will depend alot on the wood, I use a variety of oil, boiled linseed, true oil, tung oil and walnut oil. In addition I like a hard finish on some wood using 1/3 thinner, 1/3 tung oil and 1/3 varnish, will penetrate but form a hard surface. I the long run your really best option is to send out and get it stabilized.

Thanks I appreciate the input. My only issue with linseed oil is that I could only find it in a one gallon can and I won't need that much
