Hey everybody, my name is Travis andI'm new around here but not new to knives by far. I've been collecting eversince my grandad gave me my first knife when I was seven.

I have recently started to like wood handles on big single blade folders, ever since I bought a cocobolo lone wolf lobo, so I was wondering what the best way to make them would be. I don't want to use epoxy because I want to keep the scales removable as the plastic ones are now. I some what have an Idea about how to tackle it but would like some advice from some seasoned craftsmen such as yourselves. I will be making them from bocote and any advice would be helpful.
Thanks,
Travis

P.S. does this forum have a search function and if so where is it?

To search you have to be a paying member- I believe that it is $10 for a basic membership for Americans- well worth it, but this place is VERY ADDICTIVE!

As for your question- I would think that you could take off your plastic scales, draw their outline on your wood, mark the screw holes. Then you cut the scales out, drill the holes, and put them back on. Mind you I only work with fixed blades right now and have never done any mods on folders, nor have I held an Emerson. To finish the scales- sand them down as much as you can/want, and finish with multiple coats of something like Tung Oil, buff with a clean cloth. There are many ways to finish the wood so all of this is dependent on what you choose to do.

Hope this helped
