Who is your most trusted wood supplier dealing in non-stabilized woods. Right now I use about 6 different places, but with making decent size batches of knives I am looking for some consistency.
Thanks
For non-stabilized wood I would suggest Gilmer Wood in Portland Oregon.
There is a $100 minimum order but since you are doing bigger batches that should not be an issue.
I think these guys are near you http://www.turningblanks.net/servlet/StoreFront , they sell turning blanks and normally turning blanks are not dry enough for knife handles but they also have a valcum kiln and sell dry wood. They might be close enough to check out.
or
ebay.com
I have used Gilmer for specialty woods for many years. They are a great source. Quality is good or it doesn't get sold. Miles and the yard guy (Sam?) will pick the right piece if you tell them what you need it for.
For high end furniture and acoustic wood, they are tops. Their site is worth a visit just to drool. I have seen single planks of figured maple sell for near $1000.
Yep on Gilmer. I too have used them for years. My contact is Ann though. There was a screw up one time and they sent my order to some other guy with my same name that lived a couple of hours away. While he lied and denied getting it despite what UPS said Gilmer made good on the order and got me the wood I needed before they got their product back. Their selection of Mexican Cocobolo is superb. Now I know who some of the Cocobolo Banditos might be that get to some of those pieces before I do. I also like being able to look at and order a specific piece instead of just getting some Rosewood like on a lot of other sites.
