can someone give me a website or book that i can read to learn wood terminolgy for handles?example would be "figured" thanks

My roommate's from Minacqua.... I suppose that doesn't help much though.

Check out Gilmer Wood's website: http://www.gilmerwood.com/. Gilmer's descriptions are often informative. You will at least get to see photos of various wood species, along with Latin names and figure descriptions. (They're also great to deal with.)
