Wood vs Titanium

Hey! Just curious to see our opinions on wood and titanium knife scales, or just titanium compared to rival materials in general.

Not a fan of titanium. Wood, Carbon Fiber, and Micarta. However my current "favorite" is mostly CF scales with a bit of Ti exposed at the base (Biryukov #12).

I don't care for metal handles unless its necessary, such as automatics.

Titanium is my favorite handle material for a modern folder. For a traditional folder I love mammoth and nice wood.
Fixed blade I like G10 or Micarta for a working knife a fine wood for a show piece.
I despise carbon fiber and brass in any form.

"I like big butts, i'm not gonna lie." Oops, wrong forum.
Well I’ve got a woody… wait, still the wrong forum?
Anyway… titanium seems like the perfect material to me for wood/bone/horn/something inlays. I prefer the warmth of wood (or micarta) inlays over bare titanium, but having titanium’s strength and rigidity makes me more comfortable using a knife as intended. So both for me too.

Well if it's a folder the scales won't be just wood. And if it's fixed it's unlikely the scales will be Ti.

I have a bunch of both and almost all the other materials too. The only one missing is CF as it just doesn't do it for me. Not because it's not the best material.

I prefer a knife with Titanium scales.

A few thousand years, from now, some archeologist will discover my remains and all that will be left is my gold dental work, my two Titanium hip replacement prosthetics . . .and the scales of my knife.
That’s all well and good until your family cremates you…

Or, in an alternate future, your shallow grave is plundered by radioactive mutant raiders.

Pick your poison.

Oh, and for the OP, I like all handle materials for different prices and different uses.

I prefer wood on fixed blades over titanium, mostly because there are not a huge amount of options for TI fixies.

I am also a sucker for Curly Birch. The stuff looks and feels amazing.

I prefer wood for airplanes for sure.

Titanium with linen, canvas or carbon inserts, all the strength and some grippy add ons.

I love the... contrast?

Usually I have a Ti knife in stainless steel. I prefer natural materials and tool steels. However there are a few I really like. Ti and tool steel (M4) in the Advocate. But yeah... Ti M390 framies are a little too clinical for me.

Titanium is an absolute must. Then inlays on the titanium are cooler… mammoth, wood, Micarta, you name it. But I prefer ti/ti then inlays.

One of my reasons for disliking metal handles is that when it's -10° having a piece of metal against your leg is not comfortable. Even with gloves on the cold of that metal can deep through. At my old apartment I used to have to walk a good distance to my garage, and in the winter a titanium framelock in your slacks sucked. I don't have to wear slacks anymore nor do I have to walk far to my car, but that stuck with me. Plus, I just don't like the feel.
