Woodchuck Question

Yeah, what happens if you over blue. I got some of the Super Blue (double strength) and just turned a Chit into a blackhole.

Yvsa, what happens if you over-blue?

Nothing serious and nothing that can't be undone.:) The steel will simply get darker and darker. I've found that the oil treatment done quickly after the blueing drys tends to remove some of the blue anyway. The knives I've blued I blued extra dark anyway, as the darker it is the longer it takes to wear off, not a bad thing IMO.
I generally put on several coats anyway so overblueing just makes my job easier. Easier is always better, when it works.:D

Dean, how do you apply the blueing? I used q-tips
Last time I think I just used a paper towel,
next try probably dilute the stuff to slow it down,
and use a 2" paintbrush.
Maybe a few drops of soap to prevent beading.

If you dilute it way down you might even try
dipping it into a largish container
and checking the progress every few minutes.
I like to put a bit of dish soap
in everything water based that I can.

Let us know how it goes.

These are some great tips. Yvsa, if you need cotton bolls, I can go down the street from where I live (literally) and pick all you need. I'll send them to you if you want. You'll have to pick the seeds out.;)

but cotton's are getting hard to find in this part of the country.
Try the $1 stores.
They often carry cotton makeup removal squares or circles
that come usually 100 (2" square about)(400 sq-in)
stacked in a plastic bag.

Some craft & hobby stores carry cotten batting
for stuffing quilts & such.
I bought (for another purpose) a 34" x 45" piece (1530 sq-in)
of 1/8" thick needled (pressed, dense, makes it more like felt)
cotton batting for about $8. Weighs 4.8 oz.

Then, you could put some 100% cotten cloth in the dryer
& collect the lint.
I have a ziplock bag of that set aside from cotton towels.
