The July issue of Woodcraft magazine has an article about making a drop point hunter using a pre-ground blade from Woodcraft. There are beautiful samples of sheaths made by Bruce Evans and Chuck Burrows. Links are given to Bruce, Chuck Tracey Mickley and Dan Gray's web sites. It ends with a whole page profiling Tracey with pictures of his awesome work.

There is also a fantastic article about Mooney Warther, his carvings his knifemaking and his museum in the July issue of Woodcraft magazine. The trains shown in the pictures are amazing.

This magazine can be found at your local Woodcraft store or at any Barnes and Noble bookstore.

I guess I'll be finding this magazine no matter what now. It will make nice reading on my trip to Wyoming on Monday.

Thanks for the nod. That started with the editor doing a google for tutorials on sheath making to go with the knives they had just made in one of their Woodcraft classes. We swapped a few emails, I made a sheath for them and ended up with that article. My 76 year old mother bought every copy in town.

Congratulations, Tracy!
Aren't Moms great!??!!
Where would we be without 'em?

way to go Tracy
dang now I have to buy another mag ;)

I made it a point to dig this magazine up ( I actually bought 2 copies ) and I'm glad. It was a nice, understated article and may encourage some people to give knifemaking a try who otherwise would never have given it a second's thought.

Some other comments:

1) The kit blade they sell is pretty generic and would serve nicely in the woods for the vast majority of people.

2) The idea of having a beginner's knifemaking class at one of their stores was brilliant marketing IMHO. The comment about cutting outside the lines made me chuckle.

3) The full page they gave to Tracy Mickley was great. His comment about stopping taking orders when he discovered he didn't like "production knifemaking" and how much happier he is making what he WANTS to make resonated for me.

4) The page that DMT used to plug their sharpening system was a tad over the top. Determining the provided bevel angles using "a laser pointer, a FEW TOOLROOM FIXTURES (h'mmmmmm what would those have been and how many people own TOOLROOM FIXTURES? Were they clamps? I have no clue. ), and some patience to build a setup to measure the bevel angle from the reflection of the laser onto an angular scale" scared the crap outta me. If that's the easiest way to accomplish this task I'm in big trouble.

5) They nodded their communal heads to sheathmaking and both Tracy and Dan Gray. Nice publicity guys........

I would have missed this if not for the heads-up here.
