My son has started to make his own knives, we wanted to give some to our friends and neighbors to see if this might be something he could make a living off of. Does anyone know of a good place to buy some wooden presentation boxes for the knives to give as gifts? We are located in Socal.

I think Stacy responded one time that he uses a higher end bourbon or scotch cannister for a cool presentation. The best thing about that is you get to enjoy the contents:o

Fancy cigar boxes (wood) can be had for very little as well. I believe you can find lots (as in several in one purchase, not "a lot of") on Amazon.

Good size for such a thing, and when molding the interior with foam, then putting down the felt, include a little impression for a little vile of oil (for carbon steel blades). Adds an upscale touch in my opinion.

A search online for "knife presentation box" will get lots of hits. Here is only one;

Most knife suppliers sell them too. Check out the main ones - Jantz, Texas knife Supply, K&G knife supply, USA Knifemakers, Knifekits, etc.

Just a suggestion. Most folks would prefer a padded case to a presentation box (unless the knife is a display piece and not a user). Lotsof places like the above seel cases in all sizes.
These are the folks I use:

Second comment - It is hard for a full time maker of some accomplishment to make a living at knifemaking. It is nearly impossible for a new maker to enter the field and make a profit that he can live on. The volume of knives one must sell to make even a paltry salary is daunting. This topic is regularly discussed in the forums and might be a good research for you.
Here is the BF search engine:

Search "going full time", "making a living ", etc.

Probably not going to make a living off of it, but he could likely earn some good spending money while in school.
