Thanks for the extra pic - man that looks good, might have to pick one of those up....

Give it time, that cocobolo will darken with age. I have yet to see a piece of cocobolo that did not darken over time.

I've missed this the past couple of weeks, but back today :)

I do like the 88 patern EKA's Jack.

Here's my newly recieved Otter Webermesser....with wooden scales;)

Thanks jack, I'm getting into heavier carving (more bushcraft style) is rougher but working with the axe is amazingly fun.
Besides I'm a little stuck with the characters, so time will get creativity going again.

Great carving Mateo!
Really like that figure!
Nice collection of knives there too
Edit: agreed, working with axes is indeed fun:D

Excellent, I'll have to look out for your work on the bushcraft forums, don't go there as often as I should lately.

Here's something I came across on a walk the other week (stands about 9m high).

Whoa! Thanks for posting that Jack Black
Any idea what was used to carve it?

I know a couple of chain-saw artists and it looks far more intricate to have been carved with a chain-saw, so I guess (and it's a largely uneducated guess), it has to be an axe. Here's some other pics (they were at Knaresborough in North Yorkshire, I'll see if I can find any info on the net).

Here's another pic, and a couple of others close by.

Simply stunning! The detail in those is crazy!
Thanks again for posting em up, Jack Black

It's actually quite an interesting story:

http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/ne...odsman_revealed_as_Consett_chainsaw_sculptor/

And I was completely wrong about the chainsaw! This guy is amazing. I actually saw a fourth sculpture which can only be seen from the far less accessible path on the other side of the river. Hope I'm not de-railing the thread (got some great Chinese carved ivory pics somewhere! If anyone wants to see 'em I'll post 'em in Carl's Lounge ;) )

Jack

Thanks for the links Jack - I love how this guy can do this anonymously with a CHAINSAW!

(Edit-won't post on this anymore here either - don't want to derail the thread!)

Love all the talent shown in the carving and whittling pics, great stuff. Makes my cutting tasks seem all the more mundane. :)
