"Loistava veitsi" oldtymer which means "great knife" in Finnish I love J Marttiini knives, I think those are curly birch handles

They both look great!
Does one cut lend itself to more strength in the wood?

That wood is not weak, so I wouldn't think the difference would come into play. It would be very difficult to break that wood.
