A beautiful knife! I was just debating between Ironwood and Ebony for a laguiole from Artisan Coutelier, run by a Renaud Aubry. Has he passed away, or was your laguiole made by a cutler with a similar name?
Many thanks, very satisfied with that Lag, I ordered it some years ago and originally with crocus high polish finish but got fed up with the fingerprints and so I turned it matte myself, much better. Ebony works very well as a Shadow but I think many woods would suit. I believe Renaud Aubry has died yes, I base it on a posting by Jolipapa Jolipapa some time last year or early this. He may have more info? The firm is probably continuing under his name, I think his brother is involved with it but I cannot be 100% sure no.

Regards, Will

I have an array of arboraceous knives this week:
Okapi Biltong with resin-impregnated wood covers, but I don't know what type of wood it is:

Ganzo stockman with some kind of wood (or simulated wood?) handles, doing its best Buck 303 impression (thanks, Dave):

Two knives with ebony handles, one an S&M equal end (thanks, Jack) and the other my 2018 Guardians lambsfoot I call Black Jack:
