Woodmans Pal® Machete

I've seen folks grind the main cutting edge all the way out to the end of the blade. That makes sense to me.

But I like my WP a lot.

I HAVE decided that I need a hawk or hatchet for my pack and the Woodmans Pal is a better car camper and tool for the truck.

Never seen one modded.
 
I reground mine with a thinner convex edge. I went all the way to the end with the grind also. I also smoothed out the handle and soaked it in BLO. Much more comfy to chop with now.
 
Forgot to answer the OP's full question: No, I wouldn't consider removing the hook. I think that's one of the most unique/useful features. If I wanted just a machete, I'd probably go with one of Brian Andrew's modified Ontarios. The hook is really useful against springy or dry brush that would be harder to cut with a machete.
