I made this knife for the WSS Bushcraft challenge but since there's plenty of time and I need some cash, I thought I'd try and sell this one and just make another one to submit. It has gone through some testing like battoning, whittling, drilling, etc. and did really well. I cleaned it up to look like new.

Blade steel: 1095, 1/8" stock
Blade length: 4 1/2"
Overall length: 9 1/2"
Handle: macassar ebony with stainless pins/tube
Sheath: leather with firesteel loop (fit's a 3/8" firesteel snugly, firesteel not included)
Price: $180 shipped USPS priority mail ConUSSOLDThanks,
-Ray Laconico

Ray,

Another beauty! I showed my brother your bloodwood Kephart and you have a new fan. I called him on the phone to tell him about this one, and he wants it sight unseen. ( gutsiest move I ever saw).

I'll take this one and hand carry it over to him (after I've played a bit). PayPal on the way.

Thanks, TR

You got it. This is a really nice one. You may not want to give it to your brother! Email me your shipping address again and I'll get it out to you if not today, then tomorrow. Thanks!

Thank You, this one was killing me!

That's gorgeous and it took all the will power I could muster Not to Buy it.

I was about 2 minutes behind you when I decided to buy it. My will power didn’t hold up.

Keep up the good work Ray that is beautiful.

Ray makes a great Nessmuk too. One of my favorites:thumbup:

Ray,

Payment Sent!

"You may not want to give it to your brother!"

Please don't think this didn't cross my mind...repeatedly. I had to stop the ethical mental battle, do the right thing, and get typing before someone else grabbed the knife.

Besides, I'm offering him a money back guarantee. If he doesn't like the knife for any reason, I'm keeping it. (Of course I will point out ever flaw, real or perceived, when the knife arrives).

"Thank You, this one was killing me!"

Greg, I'm here for you brother.

"I was about 2 minutes behind you when I decided to buy it. My will power didn’t hold up."

bd, Forget will power. After picking up Ray's Bloodwood Kephart I watched 1/2 a dozen or so of his knives go to the homes of others (no doubt less deserving than I). I just couldn't let that continue without intervention.

Cheers, TR

i haven't seen any of his Nessies... but now i'm going to have to go hunt for some pix.

i keep hoping another bloodwood Kephart will show up.

fixer, that's the first Nessie I ever made. The design has evolved as I don't use patterns. I almost started on a Kephart today too but decided on something else.:)

This one batoned and cut like a champ. Now I'm curious to see what Ray finally submits for the challenge.

when i searched here it looked like you'd listed 5 or 6 for sale here on BF and the first one was labeled as a "small Nessmuk". couldn't find any other pix in my short search, so i don't know if you changed the size, or the calling it small was just a mater of semantics.

as usual, outstanding work. always looking forward to see what you're going to put up next.

Ray, Woods Knife received!

Very nice handle. The wood is good looking and the feel superb.
Now I have to hand it off to my bro. He seemed quite pleased.

Question: What is the black finish on the top of the blade?

Thanks, TR

Question: What is the black finish on the top of the blade?

it's the scale from the heat treating process, often called "forge scale". from what i've heard it's rust resistant, but the white parts of the blade don't have it, so you still need to take care of everything.

i haven't seen any tests on the forge scale to demonstrate just how resistant it is.

the scale can wear, but so will most other finishes. i'd just consider that a sign of honest use and not a problem.
