+1 on that. With heavy rain it gets soaking wet, cold and heavy.
Dutch military doesn't issue it anymore for a few years as far as i know.
Am i the only one that has issues with the zipper? Had 3 and all 3 had the zipper break after about a year. Other than that its indestructible.

Im strongly leaning towards the Woolrich Elite Algerian or the Eotac Field Jacket(same design basically). Biggest challenge is finding a shop in the netherlands...

i never had an issue with the zippers on mine, the first ones were issued the last one was bought surplus. the eotac stuff is very well made and so is the woolrich.

i've been trying out a pair of eotac pants for a while and they are well made and they fit good which is the hardest part for me. i still like the crye pants alot better but hey eotac is half the price!

I received a Condor softshell as a gift. It works pretty well for the fairly mild tempuratures we have around here. If it is cold it's easy enough to layer up underneath. It seems well built and has lots features for the price. The only criticism I have is the collar is somewhat bulky with the hood stowed. Other than that, it's great.

Right now I've got my eye out for a decent fleece to wear with my ESEE vest.

i got the condor softshell and i like it a lot. climbed some colorado moutains and didnt want the weight of my carhartt, so i got the condor and a fleece. works great in snow. the condor can be worn comfortably without layering and with the pit zips open at pretty high temps. I dont like jackets that overwarm me.

They say goretex is breathable, but it makes me sweat like a whore in church. I can't stand it.

Hah. First read through of that sentence I thought "why are you wearing Goretex in church?". Then I parsed it correctly :D

m65 for me...if it rains i put on the rain parka....i also have an improved rain parka that the exterior is a cotton/poly blend with the water proof liner on the inside....outside gets soaked but you stay dry...i like it because it wont puncture if you get snagged.

+10 for the parka, but why the M-65? The four pockets? Brass zipper? Wind resistance as compared to nylon or polyester? Light weight for function? Just where does it shine? Tell me so I can find it and wear it after 15 years.

I'm doubting mine is a real m65 or a very close replica, considering the zipper issue.
I'm a pocket whore(in figure of speech that is). The four pockets are great, the jacket itself is nearly indestructible and mildly rainproof and the liner makes it perfect for multiple seasons. For the price it can't be beat, I got it for about 50 euros, about 75usd.

Anyone have a good source for the Australian short dusters?
I'm digging all the stuff I've seen from drop zone tactical. Just a bit rich for my blood.

Take a look at Outback Trading company. A couple of years ago I picked up a Goretex short duster at a yard sale I didn't know about the company then but for 10 bucks I will but just about anything that fits me and is Goretex. It was a bit bulky for me though so I put on Ebay last spring.

Man I love my military issue gortex coat. It keeps me dry and warm.

When I'm standing in the poring down rain fishing on the river all day long. It has never leaked on me, and if it is a little colder outside then I'll put a sweatshirt on under it to keep extra toasty.

I can see it working standing still in cool or cold water. Or sentry duty in the Fall. A 'hard shell" can still be specified as uniform for a given unit or members thereof.

I wear an M65 or a Fjallraven Greenland on dry days, a Swanndri Ranger shirt on temperate days, and my beloved Barbour Border in the rain.

If you're set on the M65 but you live in a wet area, try pairing it up with a lightweight poncho.

I like to go on hiking Trips etc. withe a Goretex Hardshell, a very light down jacket which i can pack very small, and a light soft shell jacket.

This combination i can use for strong winter to the spring.

The only disadvantage is, if you make fire you can burn nice holes form sparks in every of this jackets.

I now looking for the bushcraft days myself for a nice jacket.
But cotton is without waxing etc a No GO for me. Gets simply too wet.

Maybe this jacket is interesting

Im suprised by the gore-tex qualms. I have an Arc'teryx theta ar and I dont sweat or get wet. Buy the good ones.
