When walking around the woods or hiking I usually carry a pistol on my strong side. Where does everyone carry a medium to large knife? Im going to bend some kydex for a new essee 6 and was thinking weak side carry. What are your thoughts?

I usually carry my Mora around my neck, handle up, using a piece of 550 paracord. I have the handle in the center of my chest as if I were covering my heart when I grip the handle. Not sure if it looks silly or not but it does work very well for me. I am just using the factory sheath so tip up carry isn't really a option. If you made something that would work tip up it might be even better. Moras are pretty light tho so a heavier knife might not be as comfortable.

I just carry a pocket knife or SAK, and then a small fixed blade knife in my pack or on my belt. A big knife like that is just too heavy for simply walking through the woods hiking. If you are thinking defense, the gun is as far as you should go. A knife is probably not going to do anything for you. Learn to do everything with a jackknife, and you will thank yourself for the extra weight.

I do this with my Moras as well! Works great and is a classic bushcraft carry style!:thumbup:

I pocket carry a Seecamp 32. So belt carry is a option ,my new belt knife is a Hess Tiburon . If I want a heavy knife my Ratmandu or a Ruana 26 . Woods walking is the only place you can carry a big knife without upsetting people . So I carry one when I walk . All of my knives ride in leather sheaths , so you must be careful when you use them . Enjoy your walks my friend

I usually carry my FB in my daypack -- it interferes with the waist belt of the pack, otherwise. Plus it's not going to get lost if it's in the pack. Usually I have a folder in my pants pocket for immediate use.

For weak side, if deployment speed is important, consider a cross-draw or scout carry. Else, just a drop or dangler. Depending on how you carry your pistol, you could do a dangler on the strong side as well.

You can secure some of the Mora's a little better than factory, fairly easily. On the Companion: Lay a piece of para cord on the table. place sheathed Companion on top of it, cross the para at the back then pull the para up snugly under the belt clip, bring both loose ends together and slip a cord tie over the ends. You snug it all up to secure the knife, press in and slide the cord tie up, then loosen the loop off the knife, to release. It's simple and it works.

I don't carry a pistol but I have tried to carry on both sides and I find it uncomfortable. I usually only carry a folder in my pocket and my fixed blade in the pack since my packs all have waist straps. If you want faster access you can aways setup a molle system and carry the knife on the strap of your pack.

Since my hiking bag is a shoulder bag on my left side, everything else is on my belt strong side.

Cross draw, appendix or scout unless you go for a shoulder harness which are nice. Or shoulder carry pistol and whatever works for u from above named

pocket sheath tucked in a either a coat/jacket pocket or in the back pocket of your jeans

I hip holster my .357 on the right (strong side) and have my favorite knife horizontal carry on my front left. We all have a fixed blade of some sort strapped to our packs, so there is always something available

I also carry a handgun strong side and a knife on my weak side. BK16, BK2, BK9, whatever - they all ride along crossdraw. It's comfortable, quick to hand and very convenient. Your ESEE6 will be great there.

Scout carry lower back handle facing strong hand, or left front hip cross draw for weak hand reverse grip or strong hand cross draw.

4" ruger GP100 on my right hip, small fixed blade around my neck. Depending on the situation my main blade is either in my pack, slung under my left with a strap going around my neck and over my right shoulder, or on a custom drop-leg rig just ahead of the gun.

My S&W shield is always on my strong side and when my new kydex dangler shows up, my bk9/24 combo will be on my week side.

With me, it all depends on the woods. If I am walking around the woods in the Eastern USA, then a Glock 26 or S&W Scandium revolver (weight is an issue), a pocket knife such as a SAK or Stockman, and either a 4 to 4 1/2" bladed fixed blade, or a large folder. If I am in Alaska, a Scandium framed S&W 44 Mag is minimum for a handgun, and usually I will have a short barreled shotgun with slugs or a rifle. I gave up on the really large knives years ago as being impractical. The Mora knives others have mentioned are nice enough and I like the bright colors. But, a Buck or Kershaw fixed blade will do nicely, as well.
