Woods Sword??? Not sure what to call this design?

So ever since I saw the movie Predator as a teenager I always wanted that bowing knife Auurnuld and the Indian guy carried in the movie. Much like the Hibben knives from the Rambo movies, well the first two anyways, all that's available are cheap movie memorabilia copies. If a real one made be the original knifemaker comes up for sale it is priced far above my means.

So I have always had this idea for my own version of it. After Bruce Culberson delivered on my big chopper I saw an opportunity to perhaps get one of my dream knives built. I am awaiting word from Bruce to see if he can make this or not, other makers haven't been able to fit something this size in the heat treat ovens. But I am excited to have finalized the shape and basic outline. Kind of a combination of the Predator knife and a Rat Waki all I can think it to be is a woods sword?

Blade is a tad over 18" handle is 11" will be made with 3/16th thick steel. The line inside the blade of my cardboard model represents the sharpened edges, the edge the back and the swedge will all be sharpened.

The knife next to it is my monster chopper from Bruce that is 17" long blade and 7" handle.

The drawing looks a little better since it's hard to do accurate cuts with scissors and cardboard.

Hopefully Bruce will be able to bring it to reality.

Nice sword, even nicer lab! Love the pack! I have a pack for my lab I have always intended on him hauling some beer in it just haven't gotten around to trying it ;)

Considering Jack Crain ripped off most people who tried to get one of those Predator blades I think you are going in the right direction with Culberson. Love the design and hope he is able to make it for you.

I sometimes carry the 22 inch Langsax that Kevin The Professor made for me. Razor sharp, sturdy, and hand made of his own Damascus steel. There is a certain comfort in having something like that in your hand, when things go bump, in the night. :D

I rather like the term that our very own StormCrow termed--"Bush Sword." It sums up the concept nicely as a sword-like chopper intended primarily for woods work with a secondary focus on defensive capability. Another term, of my own, is "Utility Sword" i.e. a sword primarily intended to serve in a weapon role, but adapted for machete- or knife-like utility usage as well.

Will Bruce be leaving forge marks on the flats? How do you like the big chopper from Bruce, does it lack in ability, or is the other design just something else you've wanted?

xxxxx

Oh no the monster chopper I already have has no difficiencies I am just a go bigger and badder kind of guy.

Bruce has said he will make the knife so I will be sending him my drawing. Not sure yet of the steel or whether I wiil have him leave the forge marks on or not.

I do wish the handle was longer for a true two handled grip, which is why the handle is longer.

Mostly having this made to satisfy the itch I've had for 25yrs or whatever it's been since Predator came out.

Bruce does sure make some good looking blades. Just got another from him today. Can't wait to see how this one turns out.

Love the stuff Bruce does...he is the man.
One of the best around these parts IMO.
The Predator movie was the BEST movie I had ever seen when it came out..I think I was 16 or 17, man, me and another survival nut at the time saw it together...we talked about that BIG knife for a long time..great movie. I liked the last one to, with Adrean Brody. Pretty good.

Here is mine. A 14" bladed Golok made from 6150 steel and a rigid spine. Total weight 1lb 13oz.
