Woods tool question.

I don't care if you've been trained by a dude in a gi, or a dude in glorified Hammer pants, or even a guy in a coyote tan tactical vest - any hawk, hatchet, or axe is not much a weapon against a four legged critter. You should just pick the most practical tool for your application and environment and give it a try. If you want a 20" hatchet, I'd suggest finding a vintage piece at a yard sale, flea market, junk store, or ebay and giving it a go.

Sorry, I didn't mean hawks or s for those purposes, I meant a machete/thick blade

I keep thinking that the Condor boomslang looks badass. http://www.baryonyxknife.com/boomslang.html

Would you put that over the Svord Golok?

Chopping wise? I would doubt it could keep up with the golok, but I don't know that for sure. 42 can probably help you out there. I just thought you wanted a pointy tip in case you needed to skewer a grizz or something. If it's important to you that it double as a weapon, you might consider a barong. A golok isn't much of a weapon. Like I said, though, I would weight your main use far, far above the tools proficiency as a weapon.

Good point.

The Boomslang is a chopping beast but with plenty of knife-like qualities. It fits within your criteria fairly well. Personally I think the 15" Bolo would be a good choice as well. Technically the OAL is 21" but I think you can probably forgive a single inch. :D

Do you mean the Condor Bolo?

I guess I just don't really appreciate the Condor line. Just don't seem that great to me, and for the price it seems like there's better options.

Like what? Just curious.

If Condor is out then the Ontarios are a good option, as are Tramontinas, but you need a sheath for those. Also the Mora #333 or Svord Kiwi Machete. Or a Martindale.

Right now I'm thinking a Junglas or the Svord golok, which are both around $100 as well. Mayeb one of Culberson's customs if we can arrange a deal. I basically want a "large knife" or thick machete that is small enough to not be intrusive but large enough to do tasks my Entrek Cobra or Misson MPK can't.

Out of the three go with the Culberson if you can arrange it. Either of the others will do a fine job though.

But the Junglas is soooo....tacticool....sterile. Personally, I would pay a lot more for the Culberson and feel good about it.

I'm waiting for an email back. Most likely if it costs over $200 I'll offer my Mission in trade. $260 is the max I've ever spent on a knife and currently I don't have more to throw around, even if I want to.
