Woodsman / Bushfinger Comparison Question

Gonna say I think a guardless Kephart, if such a beast existed, might be close.

I love the guardless kephart (top...with bushfinger on bottom):

Thanks guys, that's awesome and very nice of you. Never seen a guardless Kephart before. Quick question, can you get the entire edge of that guardless Kephart to contact a cutting board or similar surface without the pommel holding part of the edge off the board? I am pretty sure the Bushfinger can do this, and I think all of them are guardless. Preety sure the edge of the Bushfinger drops further below the handle than the Kephart's does.

Yes. The "lowest" point of the kephart handle does not prevent the edge from contacting your work. Actually, given the sweep of the bushfinger, you get less edge to work with in the bushfinger when standing it blade down.

The kephart edge is a bit straighter than a bushfinger. There's much more belly (comparatively) in the bushfinger. I like a pretty straight kitchen knife edge.

But ultimately, accessibility will win the day. Seems like there's always a few bushfingers in the friday batch.

Thank you for that. I do love the Kephart very much, it's a favorite knife design for me. I think there is an ulterior motive here for my wanting a new Bushfinger also... I got to really put the first one through a lot of different uses, and loved the knife, but I know the final model differed in a few ways, mainly the handle. Also I know all models evolve. Some from intentional changes and some from just making the knife over time. I have listened to everyone who has them rant and rave about their awesomeness over the last few years, so if the new model, which I am sure is about as refined as it will get at this point, is an improvement over the proto, then damn...as much as I loved the original, I think I am going to have to give a new one a go at some point :)

If not then that may steer me in the direction of a non-dagger-ground Shank...but even the name of that one suggests "stabby" which really isn't what I am going for...

What did you end up deciding on? Bushfinger, Kephart, or Shank?
