Woodworkers help if you can

I made some headway with the Draw Knife for the bow.

This is a Nicholson file made from W1. Here it is annealed and getting a rough edge filed into it. If you look at the left arm (original tang) you can see where it snapped off and was welded back on. This is par for the course when you have no tools to speak of and a biscuit tin filled with Kitty Litter as a forge lol. :)

Looks really nice to me Temper, and should last a lifetime if treated proper.

I spent another couple of hours on it yesterday. It was heat treated and I made an attempt to temper it. Its bloody hard though, a file just slides off it like its on ice. I have the thing ground down on the Edge Pro to within a couple more hours work, then I need to fit a couple of wooden handles.

If you are thinking of trying this, dont! Its been a royal PITA!

or you could have bought one of these for about 25 bucks at ragweed forge:

#220. This is a woodcarver's drawknife. The blade is about 4" long and an inch wide. The triflex carbon steel blade is tempered so the edge is harder than the spine. The handles are generous for a solid grip. Smaller drawknives like this are quite handy, and can be hard to find. Some years ago when I wanted one to shape a gunstock, I had to forge my own! $25. at ragweed forge.

Pro, looks like a boo-boo on my part :) not to wory it actually works OK and its very simple to adjust the angle of dangle as it bites in :)

alco, I wanted to play with making one, besides I live in Japan so even Rgaweeds competetive prices are not that great once you factor in shipping.

Still a fair bit of work to be done on it yet. I will give an unbias report when its done, if its a POS I will let you know. :p

This guy has a good reputation particularly for his small DKs, the larger one is on my must forge list. As you can see they are made out of round rod, it's going to be O1 in my case. I haven't tried these yet, so I will probably work them out on some plasticine first.
