After a spectacular, and somewhat hair-raising 8-hour drive through the mountains of British Columbia, I arrived at Kootenay Joe's Home and Knife Emporium! We had a nice visit, during which Joe allowed me to take custody of this most interesting pocketknife!

A fascinating piece of work, it appears to be authentic, and a possible exhibition piece of some sort. Otherwise, so far no provenance has materialized.
If you have any vintage knives from PA, by all means post them here!! If you have any info about this cutlery, or this knife, by all means share it with us!!

Wow! An original Tidioute! We don't get a chance to gaze upon one of those very often.

Are those scales of wood? If so, what kind? They've got some sort of iridescence to them, it seems.

Beautiful knife!

Very interesting knife, thank you for sharing Charlie and KJ! I have never seen a bolster like that.

Very cool old Tidioute! I'll be watching this thread to see what info might show up. Very nice Charlie and KJ.

That IS interesting Charlie, glad to hear you and Joe had a good visit

That's a very unique frame and a lovely blade. I'm interested in what the handle material is too Major.

Some of the knives that show up on this forum are absolutely amazing. Charlie any idea as to date of manufacture.

Very interesting, Charlie! I, too, hope for more information.

In the meantime, I've taken the liberty of flipping one of your images , to 'see' the dog better.

The handle is celluloid. I have seen the same color on Empire knives, and maybe Remingtons??
I am glad you are all enjoying looking at it, even upside down!!:D

And no, it is not my next SFO! If I asked Bill to make that, he would laugh all the way home!!:)

Charlie, This type of celluloid handle material was called "shell" in the old catalogs. There were several colors. Green shell is the one that I've seen the most. It was used on knives from many companies including Remington, New York Knife Co and many others.

Thanks Jake! I can see why they called it shell. It's built up of fine, iridescent layers like a lot of shells!

Those are some of the most unique bolsters I've seen. I can only imagine what the designer had in mind, maybe it was a tribute to his favorite doggie.
