Great acquisition, Charlie! Love the overall design and the grain in that shell. Really outstanding!

Could that bolster be the origin behind the famous Kabar dogs head?

It is THE origin, according to Rich Langston. He prefers to see the knife in person I think, before he will believe it is genuine, like I do!:D

Goooood little doggie, now follow me back to Ontario, I have beads to trade .:D:D

What an amazing catch Charlie, congrats.

Best regards

After a spectacular, and somewhat hair-raising 8-hour drive through the mountains of British Columbia, I arrived at Kootenay Joe's Home and Knife Emporium! We had a nice visit, during which Joe allowed me to take custody of this most interesting pocketknife!

A fascinating piece of work, it appears to be authentic, and a possible exhibition piece of some sort. Otherwise, so far no provenance has materialized.
If you have any vintage knives from PA, by all means post them here!! If you have any info about this cutlery, or this knife, by all means share it with us!!

Cool knife!

I am glad that you had a nice and interesting visit.

... Perhaps the best shield of ever; it never fails to make me smile.

Although admittedly, the smile is sometimes along the lines, of:

is exactly what I was thinking when looking at the doghead. :D Thus the attempted lure of trade beads :D

As much as I like trade beads, I think I will continue delving into this knife's history for a while, Robin.

(What kind of trade beads??:o)

Beautiful knife you have there! I'm wondering how the balance feels with that much material so far back. Do you find it comfortable in the hand?

An almost full string of green hearts, then you would have the full string. :D

Wow is right! What a treat, and even in spectacular condition. Sweet find.... Here are the only Two pieces I've found from this facility. These both Union Razor when they bought the Tidioute co. Produced 1902~1906 How old is this? See the equivalent time card in the photo.

Congrats on that fine piece, its truly an exemplary piece. TD

I am stupid.
kj

If anyone is stupid, it is me! I bought the dog knife on spec, thinking it may have some extra value. Upon further investigation, I may be dealing with a delightful, well-made fantasy knife! A knife dreamed up by a purveyor in a flight of fancy, or perhaps thievery!
It is more likely from the 1970s, and not from ca.1900!!:grumpy:
Will report back as more info is obtained!
