I wrote today and asked if they might be offering Falcatas again. Yangdu replied that a shipment containing one just arrived today from Nepal. It has a plain leather sheath and a dragon engraved on one side of the blade. I had written that I didn't care much about the sheath carving, so this one is perfect for me and the timing suggests that it was meant to be mine.

Nice sense of timing. Haven't seen "300" - yet - heard there are falcata scenes.

Was wielding mine just the other day...

A plain scabbard? I'm intrigued. Maybe the HI falcata will win me over yet.

Post some pics when you get it please.

Yangdu sent pictures to me, but I'm not sure how to post them. It appears that I'd need to get them online for a URL to embed in a message. I don't maintain a personal web site, so I don't think that I can post them. I could forward the pics to someone if they want to post them.

The sheath looks like a big Khukuri sheath; from what I could see, the dragon looked impressive. Yangdu wrote that the Falcata was made by Bura and his helper, but that he didn't to sign the blade.

Good for you. I had been waiting for these to appear, looks like I missed the boat.

what are the specs? length? weight? price you're going to sell it to me for ;)

I LOVE the shape of the blade of the HI Falcata and the standard khukuri style scabbard is more appealing to me than the fancy carved one... but I still just don't like the handle.

Now... if I could get one with the same blade and guard, but with a handle more like an M43.... that would be delicious.

Congrates ! ! !

I own a Falcata too, it sits as the Biggest & Meanest blade in my collection :)

You will really enjoy this monster :D

Sweet.

Here's my Villager Falcata. It's still the only one, I believe. I really like the engraved dragon on yours though.

Sorry that I forgot to post the specs; here they are:

Overall length -- 27 inch
One side of blade has single dragon engraved and other side is plain
Weight -- 52 oz
Spine thickness near 1/2''
Blade made out of spring leaf steel
Satisal wood handle
Standard leather scabbard

Price $375.00 -- I looked at some old posts and I think that this is about what they went for last year too. Apparently, falcatas have a fairly high production cost, and because of that I'm sure they don't want to get stuck with them. Having a leather sheath rather than a carved wooden one probably kept the price from rising -- I like the plain sheath, although I would have liked the blade to have makers marks on the non-engraved side. Even so, I feel fortunate to have gotten it. Perhaps if enough people ask Yangdu so that she knows they'll sell, she might have some more made.

I was just reading through comments, and Wolf_1989's note about the handle made me think that it sort of reminds me of an umbrella, which struck me as funny.

As you say about the blade and guard, but reckon it would be even better with a gently curved but double-length handle.

lt's not really the shape per se, as many original falcata swords DID have hilts like that. The form overall is fairly authentic. I think the handle is proportionately too oversized for its style, which led me to think I'd prefer one in a different form.

so unfair. i've gotta get one of these someday. beautiful piece.

as for having an m43 handle, that's just a huge khukri. him imp makes those, so you're in luck. email yangdu for a 30" anything.

Nice, nice, nice snag.

I waited a long time for mine...

More falcata p0n:

Enjoy and post pix of it.

My 25" Sirupati. The most ferocious sword I currently own.
