WOOHOO!!!!! I'm getting a Falcata

My 25" Sirupati. The most ferocious sword I currently own.

CONGRATS! :D

I have been lusting after a Falcata for quite some time. They've always been a little too rich for my blood. However, maybe one day;) For right now, I'll settle for my lightning fast 20" Kobra if I need something really "weapony" and my beefy 25" Kobra if I need to slash through Persian armor:p

Yes I know HI makes a 30" Sirupati. Yes I know Yangdu often posts some monster khuks for sale. Yes I know they make swords.

Nice sense of timing. Haven't seen "300" - yet - heard there are falcata scenes.

Was wielding mine just the other day...

Mike,

You gotta let me in on the secret of this POWER STROKE. I've never seen anyone swing a sword like that. It looks like your going to bash something instead of chop something. I know it's probably a century old Celtic technique, but if you could share it to a fellow falcata owner, I'd appreciate it. :D

If you use the sharp side, it gets dull and you have to resharpen. That's work.

Besides, to smack someone "with the flat of my falcata," has a nice ring to it. :p

Think I was trying to show the maker's marks in that pic. :o

The falcata can generate the most powerful blow of any HI *safely* due to the hooked handle. It ain't going to fly out of your hand.

Of course, this is all just theoretical. Mine is named "the Mother of All Safe Queens," for she decorates the wall with an iron fist. Not that I'm afraid to use it; just got about 40 others that already are in various stages of rust, dings, etc. That one and the Hanuman are for show. :)

The new UF is going to do some hacking, though. :D

overall the falcata I had was not "that heavy" as far as giant khukuries go, but it threw its weight waaaaaaay out front :D

one day I hope to live in a forest where I can actually use some of them... It would be fun to get really good at controlling the falcata.

The blades used in the movies didn't look like any falcata design I've ever seen... I like the HI versions better.. more graceful and authentic looking... none o' this "stylized for the comic book crowd" foolishness.

Mind how you go if you use something to slice through branches etc. that's got its weight well forward....... excellent though a longish and forward balanced kukri type blade is at the job, in one way it's deceptively easy -- doing a lot in a short time can put more strain on your elbow than it seems till you've stopped....

I did that a few weeks ago. Which is why I'm presently restricting myself to left handed use of a lighter and faster sirupate... should be ok again for right armed cutting in a couple of weeks. :o

Hooray for having a spare hand. :D

When chopping, I try to alternate hands at the slightest hint of tiredness in one. I'm not quite as strong or coordinated with my left hand though, so I try to take things slow and careful.
