This is my first time combining kydex and leather. It was difficult getting the needle through all those layers. I took a belt carry leather sheath that I had made previously, and I converted it for neck carry, using kydex.

I plan to take it on my next canoeing trip, Labor Day Weekend. I will come back to report on how it worked out.

If anybody else would like to add pictures of your kydex/leather sheaths, I would welcome them.

Here is another one. The problem with this one is on the left side. There is that kydex patch that I added for rigidity. As you can see, it is joined to the leather with stitching. I have already cut through the thread, just sliding the knife in and out. Got to do some more research.

Do you have a glued up welt in those sheaths? Also, what is the leather type/

I have a welt in-between the layers of leather, where the leather joins together. I put the welts in there with just enough rubber cement to hold them in place as I was sewing. For the first sheath, in my o.p., it is veg tan cowhide, probably 7-8 oz. The other one is also veg tan cowhide, 6-7 oz.

RJF Leather comes highly recommended.

If you want to split a double shoulder, let me know. Maybe we could do a buy. I don't really need a double shoulder.

where do you guys buy your leather?

Go to any Tandy Leather Factory. Tell them what you need and how much you want and they should hook you up for cheaper prices than you can get anywhere else, especilly if it is on sale.

I find a welt bonded with rubber cement will cut through pretty easily. I use leather weld. It bonds the fibers together into one solid layer of leather. Cut through is much less likely.
