WooHoo, Mantis knife - totally new original design....

For some mysterious reason I just can't muster any surprise at this totally shocking turn of events. :D

You are of course right; not as if this should be a surprise. Still, pretty brazen move, but I guess, that we have seen it many times before.
 
On one hand, I don't think the resemblance is actually that close.

On the other hand, I'm disappointed that it's not laser guided, nor does it look much like a spaceship. :thumbdn:
 
The resemblence isn't that close. There's only so many ways you can grind a short piece of steel intended to have a cordwrap handle. Like there's only so many ways to do a right edge. (like one)

The brand behind it is the issue more than the blade itself.

Actually, I think it is more that "Mall Ninjas" simply don't 'know'. Hopefully, these guys start out as "mall ninjas" and learn more about the hobby as time goes on. It is, IMHO, an educational process - from, "oooooh. that looks kewl" to, "man, this is poorly made, where is your quality stuff?". Takes time and exposure to get there. ;)

I wouldn't be mad if the shiv was made out of carbon fiber. G10 is just a stupid material to use. Leave it to crappy tacticool knives like the Paramilitary.

That last part was not serious, in case anybody already got their panties in a bunch. I just hate me some nasty aggressive G10... Not like I will lose grip on the knife that gets 99% pocket time versus holding time.
 
$73 for a synthetic shiv! :eek: If I want a non-metallic shiv, I'll get one of the Cold Steel FGX series for $10. :thumbup:

edit: Oh, wait! The FGXs don't come with sheaths. The nylon sheath that comes with the Mantis is totally worth the additional $63. I stand corrected. :D

Or you could buy a Shadow Tech carbon fiber knife. I think it is like $70 and it comes with a sheath (at least the one I saw is). Wish I hadn't handled it, though. The one I had wasn't perfectly finished and I got some carbon fiber in my hands for about 2 weeks.

The Delta Dart comes with a great sheath for the money. :thumbup:
