WooHoo, My 2017/18 Winter Kith Knife Arrived!

Well my wife is continually fussing at me about all the packages we receive because I have an Amazon addiction...but I wasn't expecting anything Friday, but she hollared at me and said there's a big package waiting on the porch goofy! Well it was slightly large and very well packed, it was my KITH knife from Marc-AKA Knuckle Down Knives It is a cool 'tacticool' blade with a skull crusher at the end of the tang and it has really cool Reddish resin/Carbon fiber bolsters on it--and it has some sort of cool forced patina markings on the blade, which look very cool. I remember posting when Marc gave us a sneak peek at this knife, that it wasn't my style and I wouldn't make something like it, so it's kinda cool I ended up being the recipient of it in this KITH. It came with a tricked out Kydex sheath. So here's a couple pics:

The few constructive inputs I have revolve around the handle sizing. I have avg hands, wear a ML golf glove, and when I take a natural grip of the knife my little finger ends up landing on the point of the exposed tang area. I guess you could squash your fingers together and fit them all inside the handle grip area, but that's what it feels like to me to keep m fingers clear of the exposed tang, I need to squish my fingers all together. So that's it Marc, it's a cool looking knife, and I am jealous of your Kydex skills--I have to get to working on that myself soon. the fit and finish on this knife is great! Thanks for your participation in this KITH and thanks for a cool knife brother!!

Don, thanks for the great feedback. I guess my hands aren't as large as I thought. Lol. But yes it's def one that needs to be sized to whoever will use it. Thanks again. This was fun to participate in.

Well folks, don't hate! I received another one of Kuraki's beautiful knives this time. W2, Hamon, Really nice Mahogany, well executed sheath, Even has my favorite color liners. What's not to love? Thanks John for this one. I will definitely be using it. Pictures below, including it's big sister I was lucky enough to score two KITHs ago.

Enjoy,

Well, I had a pile of boxes on the porch when I got home tonight. A cheap drill vise to aid in welding up damascus billets, a pile of EDM stones, a belt order, my monthly Amazon subscription case of Monster sugar free grape and this little beauty from B Bamph -

I had it in my hand for less than a minute before my wife saw me, said "ooohwasthatilikeitilltakeit" and I didn't get to actually see it until she went to bed. I sent you an email Ben, but really, really nice job. Finish, technique, etc is great, but what's really impressive is the form and design. The handle form and shape is nothing short of excellent and that is not a small achievement. Thank you very much.

Hey kuraki, thanks for your nice comments and good pictures. Glad you both like it. Also, thanks for the feedback you emailed. You are the first knife maker to see my work so every tip and comment is appreciated.

I will post pictures of the nice knife I received tomorrow.

I would rate this KITH a great success. I got to see how someone else did their work - and I fully intend to copy a couple of things they did - while getting great feedback on my knife. Thanks Warren!

To me, this is the whole point of these Kiths. You articulated it very well. I agree this year was a great success all around. This was the most stress free Kith I’ve participated in, (other than the delays in my own build from regular life stresses) and I’ve smiled many times reading the posts you guys made.:thumbsup::D:)

Seems like it was great all around. I hope to join the next one. My only concern is that I've not made a sheath yet. I guess you guys would notice if it had a Paul Long stamp on the back...

So I was very pleased and excited to receive this package yesterday!

And here it is!

The grind on this knife is perfect and it really does cut like a laser. I grabbed the first thing I could find - a baby carrot - and proceeded to cut it into about 50 translucent slices. I thought I was making thin kitchen knives, but now I know what they should look like!

I love the case. When I was a kid my mom would always wrap our kitchen knives in newspaper to bring them camping. The case on this knife is the perfect solution to the problem of protecting a large knife when transporting it.

I love the carbon fiber handle. It is gorgeous. My wife loves the color too. It is a bit stubby, but I know it was made that way on purpose. The balance is perfect- right under your fingers for a pinch grip.

Thanks Skillgannon - We will use this knife and enjoy every minute with it!

A lot of people have done their first sheath for a kith. Don’t worry about it. There are a lot of great tutorials out there on it. I’m pretty sure no one would complain if there was a Paul Long stamp on the sheath either.

You don't need to make a sheath, just make the knife break in the middle, fold it over and stick it in a small pouch.
Your folder was the reason my son was bugging me to join. He said I could get an awesome "free knife", ignoring all my required effort of course...
I do think it is a great idea. I could always attempt a kitchen knife with case, rather than a sheath.

Will there be one for the spring quarter or is the next the summer kitchen knife one. Not that I am great at them but it might be fun to do a camp/bowie event.

Yeah, it’s not really a “free knife” is it? It’s a knife in a different style from a different maker. It’s a great way to see where you are at, and get new ideas.

Thats actually a neat idea doing a survival, camp, bowie. Or even a skinner/ hunter in the fall. But doing one 4x a year would probably be excessive i donr think alot of guys have that kinda time.
