I was on a late season deer hunting trip several years ago. I had a 2 hour drive from where I live and stopped to get something to eat from a convenience store. I arrived at my hunting location and wasn't feeling so good.It was a 1 1/2 hour hike up the mountain to where I wanted to hunt. I was hunting alone and did leave an itinerary for my wife. I made it about 3/4 of the way and all of a sudden I became nauseous and extremely week. It had begun to snow and there were intervals of freezing rain. I felt very sick and could not continue. I didn't even have the strength to get off the mountain. I always carried extra clothes and survival gear when I hunted alone and one item came in handy. It was a full size space blanket. I was shivering pretty bad and decided to get it out of my pack. It kept me dry and warm, but there is no way to regulate the heat so it did cause me to sweat a bit. After several hours I felt well enough to get off the mountain. There was no one else hunting in that area and if I didn't have the space blanket, I would've been in serious trouble. My guess is that I had a case of food poisoning from the food I bought and ate during the drive up.
