Wool socks

I' ve tried many brands and weights. They include Wigwam, Woolrich, Smartwool, Wooly Booly, Wick & Dry, Northface, Timberland and a few others. All have wool content. Most with Merino wool. But I' m most satisfied with the medium weight hiker Darn Toughs. They offer firmer support and allows for less stretch resulting from repeated wear. No clammy feeling nor irritating seams. They are 3 season socks for me. Only in the summer do I put on my Smartwools. They don' t last as long. But feel quite comfy in athletic shoes and sandals. The Darn Toughs are a bit pricey- retailing at about $20 per pair. But can be found in big chain discount/ closeout stores such as Marshalls and TJ Maxx. Many are marked as irregulars or slightly imperfect. I check them all out before taking them to the cashier. And could not find any compromise in construction/ quality. They are worth the $10 per pair tag.

I didn't know TJ Maxx and Marshalls sell them, i'll have to check them out

Don't know about Wigwam merino wool socks, but SmartWool socks are seriously nice. I got a pair last month and absolutely love them. My older sister has had a pair for 8 years, and just now decided they need replacing.

Hope that helps!

Big +1 on Smartwool socks. Being an old catcher (Backstopper) my feet have been through the wringer. Nothing has felt as good on my feet day to day or on a long trek for elk with my bow than smartwool socks. They arent cheap but they do go on sale once in a while. You will never be sorry you tried them IMHO.

Keep in mind that these big closeout stores receive varying stock all the time. So there is no particular brand that they will carry on a full time basis. I.e., just recently I saw their pegboards full of Carhartt brand Merino wool blend socks in medium and heavyweights for only $5 and $6 per pair respectively!

I have been wearing Smartwool for years. 2 years ago I picked up some of the new phD socks they came out with. WOW! What a difference they are. I wear the medium weights all year round, and get 2 years or so from them. The first round are getting tired and need to be replaced soon.

I've been wearing Smart wool (merino wool) socks since I got out of the Army 10 years ago. Unless I have a pair of running shoes on I WILL be wearing the Smart wools. I get about 2 years out of my work pairs (different color so I don't mix them up). I wear them both with and with out my Fox liners. These are washed and dried along with the rest of my work clothes. My other Smart wools last about 4 years as they don't get put through the ringer so to speak like the ones I wear for work.

REI merino wool socks are good too... I have a couple of pair. I picked up a 4 pack of merino wool blend (?) socks at cabela's 3 months ago and so far I don't like them for winter, I'll retest then come summer...

I wear Smartwool socks everyday. They are awesome! They last a good long time. My feet are very healthy as well. They never stink and I have not had athletes foot since I started wearing them.

I turned my folks onto them and my dad who had terrible feet/fungus issues now swears by them as well.

I went to our TJ Maxx tonight and they didnt carry any of those, just polo, nike dress socks, no wool socks. I'll try Marshalls sometime to see if they have some.
