WOOT! New RC-6!

I just traded into an RTAK II and I gotta say, it burns through smaller branches and saplings like a freaking chainsaw. I literally couldn't wait for the RC version. When it comes out, I'll be doing alot of head to head type stuff.

As far as the 5 being more popular than the 6, I think people equate .25in stock with quality and capibility due to the Busse crowd.

The Mrs. is a great indicator of what works and what doesn't without being influenced by things like popularity, cool factor and hype because she doesn't follow the knife thing at all aside from using them when she needs to.

She tried them all for cooking and fire building and the 5 isn't even on her radar. The 3, 6 and Izula are her favorites.

I really dig the RC5, it's just plain ol' cool... BUT the RC6 is my favorite camp knife. It stays attached to a beltkit I made out of a Maxpedition 10x4, M1, mini-rolypoly and Cocoon pouch.

10 inch knife or mini machete if you will. Ontario has an RTAK, and now RAT Cutlery is making one.

I agree with Jeff, I love my 1/4 in BK2, but I'd rather have an RC6 or BK7 for long extended jungle trips.

I love my rc6 but LOVE my rc5. The grip, sheath and the way wood splits when I point the rc5 in it's direction add up to my favorite knife (and not just rc knife!).:)

The RC-5 seems a lot more popular but the RC-6 is a much more efficient cutting tool than the 5, not to mention lighter weight. Maybe it just show that we really don't know what we're doing in this industry 'cause if I had to choose between the two, the 6 wins hands down for being in the woods. Maybe I'm just too damn logical for this market! Then again, I never thought an over-priced machete (RTAK) would sell in the USA either.

Not to condone Ontario's recent management direction; but back in the day, how was the D2 RAT-5 accepted ? I thought that was a pretty nice design you had there.

Agreed! I have to say the RC-6 is one sweet knife. A real sleeper in the lineup for sure.

I don't know that I'd call it a sleeper with the way it is flying off the (online) shelves these days. There are only a few places where you can find one the way you want it in stock and not backordered. RAT & Rowen have been busy.

The RC 6 is just a great knife, I personnaly prefer it to the RC5 because it is a full flat grind, but thats more personal than anything. Now I'm just waiting for RAT to get a RTAK II type knife on there line, for the moment I'm resisting the temptation to buy an Ontario but having 2 RATs that I love, I have a deep feeling that I'm better off sticking with RAT.

Ok, guys, back at a computer for a little bit. The trip went great and the RC-6 was a real performer, as expected! Jeff, when you said that the 6 was designed as an all-around knife, you really weren't kidding!

More when I actually get back to the house and my own computer later this evening.

Keep 'em sharp, guys!

I won't be back 'till Sunday, but if I'm not back after that you can assume that may lady killed me for buying another knife!:foot: Hopefully my bribe of a pink Izula will help me out! :o

It's easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission :D

Congrats on your new blade. Looking forward to pics.

Spoken like someone who's never met my lady!

I only got a few action shots, but I'll post them when I get a chance. It's my favorite knife at the moment, so I'll be getting some more shots soon, too! :D

I felt that RC-6 was my first choice over the RC-5 for weight and length but the RC-5 is just so damn cool in it's own right! best just to have both ;)

Here's one of me splitting up wood for the fireplace! Sorry for the bad lighting, but it was raining buckets outside and the camp has limited electricity!

I just got my RC-4 and I think the RC-6 will be next. All the favorable posts here make me want to run right out and pick one up.

It's my absolute favorite singular knife right now. If I could only have ONE then this would be it. :)

I'm with ya 42B... The RC6 is what started my love affair with the RAT line.

I had a RTAK from the "other" guys, but after chopping a little wood the edge was chipped to hell. I can't wait to see the chopper Jeff, Mike & Shon work out.
