What's the latest info here?

In the pics I've seen, "PARAMILITARY" was engraved on the blade in big, bold letters.

This is the one reason I would not buy this knife.

Any word of late?

If you get the ELU book, it's a clean blade.

Sal said that we complained enough that he decided not to put the name on it.:D

Ah, I liked the word "PARAMILITARY" on the blade. It looked GREAT in the pictures I saw of it!

I prefer the KISS rule of thumb.

Also, given it's a midsized knife I would actually carry around the office, I'd rather not have PARAMILITARY fueling the fears of sheeple.

Jeff:
As nice as the laser engraving looks even on the c36 military, I'm not gonna tell you the number of times I've looked at it and wanted a clean blade.

The fact that it has a clean blade means I will eventually purchase it. As much as I want one, I wasn't going to buy it with "PARAMILITARY" engraved on the blade. There's just no easy way of explaining that to a coworker, security guard, cop, etc etc etc.

The engraving only makes sense if you're someone who knows that it's the smaller version of the Military. If you're anyone else, you'll associate that label with all kinds of negative international images.

I'll buy it even if it has a portrait of Howie Dean (YYYYEEEEECCCCHHH) on it, I just want the knife.....gimmee.

No ambi clip, at least on the first few runs. We've had requests, just haven't found a solution we're satisfied with, as yet.

Hmmm, when can I get one?
I haven't found one yet and I'm pretty sure I NEED it.

I'm glad to hear about the "clean" blade. I just need to know where to send my cash! I can't wait for this beauty!

I'm really glad that there will be no engraving. But I still really recommend changing the name. How about "Military Jr." or "Mini-military"?

I've held off buying a couple classic Spyderco's purely because of the engraved name (Military and Police). But this last week, I finally broke down and bought a Military. And yesterday, I got it in the mail; It is a really awesome knife, but I can't stand the engraving. I'm sure sales are better for Spyderco because of the engraving. There are lots of actual police and military users out there, and there are a lot of wannabes.

But how many people want to be assosiated with a paramilitary organization?

"Paramilitary" has a very strong negative meaning to me. It makes me think of death squads in a third world country. It makes me think of a bunch of racist hicks running around calling themselves Major General.

The knife looks wonderful. I really like the blade and handle shape, blade steel, and the compression lock. It really looks like a pretty ideal EDC, at the cutting edge of technology.

But even without the engraving, I just can't buy one. The name is just too negative.

Not that I want to start a rant here...

Police departments are para-military organizations. They have rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Officers in most jurisdications are extensively trained in a variety of subjects. Police officers must obey the orders of superior officers, follow and uphold the laws and constitution of the various states and the United States. Most officers learn to march in the police academy, wear uniforms and carry firearms. I realize that no one was refering to police departments as 'death squads'... I would like to point out that many 'death squads' in history were in fact military and not 'para-military.'... still i resent the blanket characterization of para-military as negative. From my perspective, if I like a knife, I'll buy it. I don't care what it's called. Leave the name on the blade, take the name off the blade. It doesn't matter. The 'cops' don't care about the name of the knife. They care about who's using it and for what. I've said this before~ Most of us in law enforcement have a fair amount of intelligence and understand the practical application of law far better than most, if not all lawyers. If you use your knife in an appropriate manner there is little to worry about from anyone. If you don't want to buy a knife simply because of it's name, you're only cheating yourself if it's a design you like otherise. To each his or her own.

Thanx Fozzy.

I think overall, no name on the blade will be better.

Not all countries are as "oficial" about paramilitary forces as we are in America. There are more than a few countries where "paramilitary" forces are little more than resistance fighters. Not an association we're trying to acquire.

I will be getting a production piece tomorrow, so I imagine they'll begin shipping next week.

I could care less what people call it--as long as the knife itself doesn't have the name on it.

I plan to name mine "Ralph" and refer to it that way in public.

Mr. Glesser -

Thanks for the info - I've been waiting for this knife for quite a while, and it sounds like I'll finally be able to get one just in time for my birthday next month! :)

Great news!

Well, I think the name "Paramilitary" is one of most clever I've heard of - particularly as a down-sized Military.

The "Paramilitary" name on the blade was one of the reasons I wanted to get one so badly! :p So there! Just the way i have always admired the name "Military" on those. I think Spyderco does a great job of the labelling and that it adds greatly to their appeal.

Isn't it interesting how differently we all think about such things.

I guess I'll probably acquire one anyway, eventually. I always seem to.
