What is a good small spyderco for a desk job that would not be viewed as offensive by non knife people?

If you can live without a clip then I suggest the Air its small and elegant. If you need a clip then I would say chaparral or gayle bradley

I work in a office, truth be told, most people working in such a climate are 100% non knife friendly...But I still carry my Spyderco Cat since it is small and conceal easily and a SAK SD on my key chain. I keep a ''tactical'' knife in my car and wear it outside of workout only. A good concept is that the bigger a knife, the harder it would be to justify having it on your person if it ever gets to that.

I agree with you on justifying a knife. I keep a leatherman micra on my keychain (don't use the knife on it though, mostly use the scissors). I prefer Spyderco knives. Tried some BM and a CRKT and they have not worked very well for my purposes nor have the awesomeness of Spyderco.

Caly 3 CF ZDP-189. Smallish, but big enough, carbon fiber scales look classy not tactical, and the wire clip buries the whole knife in the pocket, and looks like a paper clip or pen clip. I actually took the clip off and keep it loose in my pocket as a dress knife.

Is it company policy for knives that's keeping you guys wary, or just playing nice with co-workers? My EDC is a Benchmade 9052 Auto, but I don't think I could get away with that in a typical office. :)

The dragonfly is always a good bet, and the Chaparral is small and classy enough to be pretty non-threatening.

Yes, company policy is what I am concerned about since knives can get a bad vibe sometimes and be viewed as weapons when really they are tools for the majority of people.

I like both of those ideas, but the dragonfly is probably less alarming. Do you guys think color makes any different in the perception of the knife as well?

I think some people see a black knife, with black blade in a bad light for the same reasons as blade shape, how it deploys, etc. Not good reasons, but sometimes, perception is reality. It sounds like that might be the case where you work.

I suspect this will be the case too. I do not know for sure. I start this job fairly soon and am trying to adjust my knife habits to it. I carried a Chapparal the day I got it and used it to open a small package and received a bad reaction based on the fact that the person did not know I carried knives and pulled out a black handle 3" blade knife...not sure how others would react but basing on that.

G10 Dragonfly. Hands down.

What about the slipits. I use the Squeak and the UK pen knife sometimes. I actually like both of those. Someday I'll try the smaller bug series of knives. Some are so small people would have work at being offended by them.

Dragonfly. But I generally recommend a Sage 1 as an excellent office carry knife. Or anything with the wire pocket clip.

Honestly, get a Swiss Army Knife, like the Cadet, Executive, or Manager. I get just as much use out of the other tools in my SAK at the office where I work. I prefer the Victorinox Executive myself as it has really nice, good sized scissors.

Of course, you're posting in the Spyderco forums, so you're probably looking for a Spyderco :) If you really want a small Spyderco for office carry, I would highly recommend an Air or Dragonfly. OK, fine, I'd actually recommend a small SAK and an Air or Dragonfly :D

The Balance or the Equilibrium may fit the bill, but take a look also at the Ladybug and Manbug. The Pingo is non-threatening. I prefer something more pointy, but you might like it. But I think that the advice above about the SAK is the best so far.

I'd go for the Air and then do a custom work to it. Those carbon scales are ehhhhh.

Cpm m4 is also okay from what I hear .... ;)
