Work appropriate knife for a desk job

I carried a paramilitary clipped to church and Sunday school and no one noticed or said a thing. And I was wearing black slacks and the clip is shiny. I do wear it clipped to my waistband, not pocket, so the belt covers some. Now if you wore a turtleman pig sticker people might worry.

Honestly the Kopa's are another one on the dream list, but even finding a listing for those are hard.
Certain variants like Cocobolo and Tiger Coral are hard to find at descent price. But various Kopas show up once in a while on auction at e-bay and BF and sometimes sold for about the same price we used to pay, when they were released. Patience will pay.

Another vote for the air! Very non threatening, and useful length and blade shape. I keep a bug on my keys, that is large enough for most tasks and shouldn't draw negative responses.

I never have any qualms taking out my Delica in public or in any setting, really. Also, it's purple, so people just think it's cute.

I think the perceptions of the fans here are very different from the perceptions of non-knife people. I once pulled out a Spyderco Cat and the first comment I got was "quite a nice weapon you have there."

Ugh...I loathe people, I really do. I once took my Benchmade 555hg to work (I work in an office and use it to cut my apples and my lunch) and I once took it out to cut a zip-tie or something and my coworker jokingly said "is that a deadly weapon?". That right there was enough for me to not want to hear any BS from some emotionally driven soccer mom receptionists in the building. I carry my Dragonfly G10 and Leatherman Squirt and almost always use the Leatherman before the Dragonfly, just to avoid a headache.

But yea, private property is private property. You sort of have to deal with it regardless of your state. I'm in Arizona so I am fortunate enough to carry whatever I want. Usually people don't mine. For example, I was at the grocery store the other day and was carrying my Paramilitary 2 and they had a cheese tray out for sampling, but they didn't have any tooth picks. So I whipped out the PM2 and stabbed a cube of cheese and ate it, and then another (it was really good cheese), and no one batted an eyelash.

Hey lionesser, three words...
DRAGONFLY, DRAGONFLY, DRAGONFLY! :)

It's small but it's still a "real knife"! The ladybug just doesn't quite qualify for me. I own the H1 version and love it for edc, but...the ONLY reason I have the h1 is because I'm on the ocean with it almost everyday. As much as I love the salt knives for my needs, I would suggest the ffg vg10 version for you. It's what I would get were i in your position. You could even go green! That green dragonfly is a really cheap way to carry some zdp-189 steel!

Whatever you decide, get a dragonfly of some kind! It's really an awesome little knife! One of my favorites! You won't be disappointed.

I carry large knives in the office all the time. I see nothing wrong with it and have no problem whipping out a Millie in the old orifice. If someone gets offended I see it as their problem, not mine. As long as I'm not breaking any laws, I'll carry whatever blade I feel like putting in my pocket. If it's really an issue, the sage 1 is always a good choice.

If you looking for a spyderco I'd go with the Leaf Storm. Titanium frame lock natural G10 S30V blade. Its an awesome knife!

And if your looking for something the cost less there is always the Pingo

The Spyderco Techno is a little-big knife. Little enough to not be a threat to anyone, but big enough for tough jobs! Plus, it has a deep carry pocket clip so nobody will see that knife sticking out of your jeans.

I also have a Leatherman Skeletool, which is a good safe office multi-tool that also has a knife. Nobody will think twice on why you cary a multitool around with you at the office.

If you are wearing slacks though, you may just want to take off the pocket clip and just carry whatever you want. I find that pocket knives clipped to the edge of the pocket fit funny in slacks.

I don't work in an office, but I usher in a suit at church regularly. I usually carry a FFG green Delica loose in RFP, clip removed, plus a SAK. It has never been a problem for folks around me. So much of people's perception depends upon one's deportment. I'm the guy people go to whenever they need anything cut or repaired. This contributes to perception of my knives as tools; I use them to help people with needed tasks.

The Bradley Air looks like a wonderful office knife, as do the Dragonfly variations.

Cheery colored scales reduce the dread level of folding knives, and all my EDC folders have colored scales instead of black scales, and none have blackened blades, either. Blackened blades just scream, "weapon!"

I'm with you. It's fun pulling out my BM 9052 and hitting that button when I need a knife. I've been lucky so far though, in my offices that's on the small side for a carry knife.

C22 Michael Walker in carbon fiber with ZDP-189 blade.

Ugly pic

Having it has ensured that the Leafstorm never left the box...

I live in the south as well... and yes, it seems like most men carry knives. I work in an office, although I think it's a little more casual than most. I wear polo shirts or button up shirts, and khakis or cargo khakis every day. I rotate a few small folders in my front right pocket so they don't interfere with keys, etc., but I also carry a large knife (Military, PM2, etc.) on me every day as well... Mostly in a cargo pocket, or back pocket. In my office environment, knives are not really an issue. I would say half of the men in the office carry some sort of knife on them daily. Most of the ones I've seen are pretty small, like a small buck, old timer, gerber, or at the largest a Kershaw Leek. My workplace has a shop and warehouse as well, and almost all of those guys carry knives. In the shop/warehouse, I've seen some of the larger Gerbers, a few Kershaws, and even a large CRKT M-16. Around the office, I do get the occasional gasp or "woah, that's big" comment when I use the Military, or even the PM2, but it's usually not a fearful/threatened response. A lot of times the person will ask to handle the knife, and just ask why I "need" a knife that big.

All of that rambling just to say... after reading this thread, I think a dragonfly should be in my right front pocket rotation. Thanks for sharing your opinions.

My dress-up knife is my Caly 3 CF Damascus. Its prettiness undercuts its intimidation factor a lot.

Otherwise I think the Air is a solid recommendation and would add the Cricket Nishijin and maybe the Centofante Memory to the list. None of these four are very tactical looking.

If a suit were the order of the day at work I'd probably scale down for a traditional jigged bone penknife that reminds people of their grandfathers or an executive SAK.
