I am looking for a pair of steel toed work boots, mainly for working at home. I'd like to get a pair of Dr Martens, but all I could find is a pair of work boots at a certain sporting guide company. I want to get a 13 wide, no go. Found the Timberland pro series work boots, but again, didn't have 13 wide. Was thinking about Red Wing boots, I would really like to go USA made. I have big calves, and diabetic neuropathy, so that is a big issue too. I had asked about hiking/snow boots in another sub-forum, I'm just looking for work boots now. I want to get something I can wear to work over the winter too (office job).

I have had a pair lof Redwings in 13 EE for the past 7 years. I wear them down to 30 below, I wear them in the mud and I wear them in the heat. They are the pull on ones with no laces and are as close to waterproof as any boots that I have seen. They have never been re- soled or repaired and I might get another year or two out of them. They are expensive but well worth the money.

Look at Wesco, kinda pricey, but you get what you pay for. Made in USA also.

As far as Dr Martens go, are they made in England still? I think I might stop by the Redwings store tomorrow.

Don't know if docs are still made in England, but I do know they don't count as "wide" to my feet.
Danner and Chippewa both still make some of their boots in the US, as does Carolina.
I've had good luck with all 3.
I'm also very fond of Dunham, but few of their patterns are USA made any more.

I like my ariat work hogs. They are waterproof and have a composite safety toe. They are real comfortable, especially if stand on your feet alot. They are a western style slip on, but I know ariat makes lace up styles as well.

Redwing linesman boots, then rhino guard the toe and you will have one tough pair of sh*tkickers!

Not all, if any, RedWings are made in the USA. Mine were made in China.

Redwings some are still made in the US DR MARTENS soles and stitching dont hold up for crap same with Timberland bought them from TSC and had to have them
replaced in two months soles came apart same with second pair they are not made for hard work but they are comfortable.

Some Red Wings are made in China, some made in USA with imported materials, and some fully produced in the USA. If you check their website you can sort through the boots with place of manufacture as a criteria.

I got a pair of Red Wing 1421 boots just last week for Christmas. When I went to the Red Wing store to pick out the ones I wanted the clerks were very helpful. A nice thing is that they have a policy where you can bring your boots back to the store for an exchange or get a refund unconditionally in the first 30 days if you're not satisfied with how they feel. Can't hurt to go to one of their locations and try some on.

i like rockys and magnums. rockys wear better, neither is u.s. made. last redwings lasted more than a year on the dock, that is good service for me.

Dr.Martin steel toe boots are very heavy and don't hold up. Non steel toe Dr.Martins are nice for casual use, but don't hold up, stitching or sole give out. I have had 10 plus pairs and wear them for casual wear, and when they get worn approx 2 years i buy a new pair and use the old ones for work.
Redwing 608 boots are nice i bought my first pair about 8 years ago and were great for about 4 years then the sole seperated, i liked them so much i decided to buy a new pair 6 months ago and found them to not be the same quality as the first pair, cheaper leather, bad fit and finish and not comfortable.

Thats odd.....my steel toe and non steel toe slip on dr martins have been throuh hell and back, and havent even come close to wearing out. Ive been very impressed with them.

Timberland Pro Helix. I have used them when I do survey work and they are by far the most comfortable boot I have worn. I have a soft toe and a safety toe version. I have used Wolverine, Redwing, and tried a few others, but none have been as comfortable as these. Give them a try!

+1 on the wesco, pricey but well worth it, Hoffman also makes awesome boots, the pac boots are super warm and very durable.

I've owned and liked Redwing, Whites, and Wescos. I lucked into a pair of Filsons and just love them. Spend as much as you can. Your feet are worth it.

Filsons are nice, but made overseas with all of their fairly large leather products.
I am a Danner fanboi. Love 'em.
Also, maybe check out some lightly used military surplus boots to see what you like in a boot on the cheap, all US issue boots are USA made. I have a pair of 9" steel toe Bates Navy issue that are nice for what I paid for them ($50)

I've had terrible experiences with Dr Martins in the ice and snow. I found there is just no grip at all. I threw mine out after that. I generally wear wide fit non safety hiking boots or timberland boots in the winter now

Go with the Red wings. You'll never be sorry you did. I can't say enough about them, I've worn them for 15 years now, and I'll never go back.
