Work boots

head out to sunset supply off of Liberty road (rt 26 west), towards frederick one day Silenthunter...they've got more redwings and other boots than most shoe stores, and a bunch of different brands too, redwing, caroline, double h, rocky, wolverine and a bunch more :D Ive been getting my last few pairs from The Working Persons store online http://www.workingperson.com check em out, at least youll get to see some different brands and styles.

Dr.Martin steel toe boots are very heavy and don't hold up. Non steel toe Dr.Martins are nice for casual use, but don't hold up, stitching or sole give out. I have had 10 plus pairs and wear them for casual wear, and when they get worn approx 2 years i buy a new pair and use the old ones for work.
Redwing 608 boots are nice i bought my first pair about 8 years ago and were great for about 4 years then the sole seperated, i liked them so much i decided to buy a new pair 6 months ago and found them to not be the same quality as the first pair, cheaper leather, bad fit and finish and not comfortable.

I have had the same pair of Dr Martin shoes for maybe 8 years or so and I would dissagree with your statement about their casual wear. Some years they got very little use, true, but for multiple winters they have been my primary footwear, especially when I was delivery driving full time. They have seen countless miles of walking, especially in wintery conditions. Typically I keep them polished, maybe conditioning the leathr once a year. This year the soles finally developed some cracking and wearing through- still completely useable but will probably be looking for a new pair next fall. Most likely they will be replaced with the exact same model!

I also bought a pair of chinese-made Danner boots, but didn't get a chance to use them much before I stopped driving, but they seemed to be doing OK... But they weren't my favorite, for several reasons - not the least of which is that the soles on those didn't seem to have much grip in oily conditions, which made it dangerous for me. Some day I may try a pair of US-made Danners. Kinda hard to justify another boot purchase until what I have wears out since I don't need them for work anymore. I still wear the Magnums on a daily basis around the house and doing other stuff.

I tried two different pairs of the Danner acadia U.S. made boot, and they just didn't work for me.The material the soles were made out of, were just too slippery in wet/snow/ice conditions. I just dropped the last pair in excellent condition at the Salvation Army store. I won't ever buy Danners again, they just are not worth the 200+ dollars. Too stiff, not comfortable, and slippery under conditions that you really want good grip on the pavement. I'm done. From now on, my boot is Magnums. Do yourself a favor, and save yourself the cost of Danner's and put the money someplace else. Like a nice weekend at a bed and breakfast inn for you and the better half. You'll have more fun.

I just don't see where the fan love for Danners come from.

Carl.

Well, everyone's feet are different. I personally find Danners to be very comfortable, and the Vibram soles are the best balance of durability and traction in my opinion. They are stiff though.

I have worn hard toe boots/shoes 10-12 hours a day for going on 20 years. I take about 5-10000 steps a day, used to wear a counter :), climb ladders, walk on every type of surface imaginable. I weigh around 225 and some grips wear out in 3 months. The last 3 pair of shoes I've purchased have been Cat Argon's, just got a new pair yesterday this time in a hiker high top tho. Great grip on most surfaces, still grippy when I retire them, composite toe and shank, lightweight and reasonably water repellent. Everything about shoes is having the right one for what you need, these work great for me. My coworkers, about 4 of them also love them.

Check out the Super Rainforest made by Danner here in Portland, OR. At first you'll wonder why you bought them because they'll seem overly stiff, but after a couple of days of heavy use you will love them. Trust me, I waer 13EE and these are the best work boots I've ever bought.

I also would not recommend Doc's for work boots. The steel toe's I have owned of theirs were terrible. Very Very poor traction, and I mean horrible if you are walking in the cold, snow, ice, wet. But more importantly, I cannot wear them, as the side of the boot is soft, and right where it meets my pinky toe nails, it is soft enough for your toe to get "outside" the steel toe, then tear the damn toe nail clean off. I have bent back, and torn, and bloodied my toe nails countless times with Doc's steel toes.

I have a pair of Timberland Pro's??? that have done well for about 7 or more years.

(I don't really "work" for a living any more, so they are now just yard work/ outside work boots).
