Work rests what is out there

Here is one I made, nothing fancy, but it serves me well.

I have the DD work rest and to be honest, I don’t really like it that much. I was kind of disappointed when I got it. I’m using it on a KMG so of course I’m used to everything being made out of 1/2” or bigger. The DD workrest is made using 1/4” and it can be a little wobbly. I got it with the intention of using the angle adjustment in the tool rest and my flat platen at a solid 90 degrees. I would set the tool rest at 12 degrees and grind my scandi knives while they were clamped to a angle iron jig. The tool rest isn’t solid enough to maintain the angle. It moves when much pressure is applied to it. So the only part I really use is the tool rest that goes with the small wheel attachment. I use it for grinding profiles. That’s it. And you can modify a regular tool rest to do that. In other words, it’s not worth it IMO.

Did you tap your clamp bolt holes perpendicular to the saw cuts or the bar? Looks like the bar. I was wondering how that worked part of the reason I haven't done something similar is not wanting to drill and tap all those angles holes

I used 1.25" square stock, after milling the hole for the rod figured out where to drill for the bolt, then drew the angle for the slot and cut it on the band saw.

When tightened that rod does not move

Thanks. I'm going to do something similar then. My half ass rest has outlived it's usefulness.

You can always go with a straight cut at the front of the block as well

Yeah, I just don't like the extra length that adds. Maybe it gets in the way from a tight positioning of the rest, maybe it doesn't. The way you did it is just cleaner IMO.
