Work Sharp - anybody?

You can order them through Amazon... I was looking at prices for BK11's when I saw this thread and looked it up.

Does the worksharp work well on recurve blades?

It is awesome on the BK-4. I put a 25 degree on the "ax" part of the blade and a nice fine 20 degree on the knife area. Also use it for the Kershaw Blur, and its great. Much easier to do recurves than with a stone or as some have said, PVC with sand paper wrapped around it.

Yeah,

I ended up constructing my own home-made sharpening system when searching for a way to do my recurves. Nothing like some wooden dowel and supplies for car / metal polishing supplies. I ended up putting a pretty scary edge on some of my knives with it.

I just wanted an excuse to get one for my garage ;)
 
I read through the manual and didnt see anything about tips for not rounding out the tips.
 
No Kidding! If you look at the pick above, you will see that I did a real good job at rounding off the BK2. Also the back of the blade is sharpened Deeper than the rest. Both things that could have been prevented if I had practiced a little on some cheep knives.

The trick in keeping the tip from rounding is simply stop pulling the blade when the tip is on the 1st half of the belt. Don't let the belt wrap around the tip and round it off.
To prevent the deeper "cut" near the choil, place the blade on the belt and then pull the start button and start drawing the blade back across the belt. Be especially careful if you are using the 80 grit belt this hogs some material rapidly.

I believe that I saw the Onion version in the Cabela's Canada xmas catalogue also.

This is the main problem I have found with the WS. Even with the technique you describe, the divot near the choil will appear over time (or has for me anyway). I have stopped using mine for anything other than tool sharpening, or honing with the 6000 grit belt. I haven't tried the Onion version, so not sure if this could be overcome with a slower running belt?

I was at Bass Pro yesterday and almost bought the Ken Onion edition. I had it in my hands and almost to register when I changed my mind. It does look really nice. Plus I like the other attachments that I can get for it. I'll probably buy it after vacation at the end of this month.
 
Be careful or you will end up with recurves when you didn't have them before. Also the deal about rounding off the point.--KV
