Work Sharp Ken Onion Edition Vs. Edge Pro Apex Vs. Wicked Edge

If you don't mind, please describe what the Blade Grinding Attachment does that the basic unit doesn't do or does better.

You can start by looking up pictures of it attached to the worksharp on the net. It has a wider belt. You can change the angle from IIRC 10 to 35 degrees. You can control how much of a convex it gives by moving one of the rollers closer or farther to the other one.

What I like is i just hold the knife blade horizontally which I think is easier to maintain. It also has a platen on the back side of the attachment to grind 90 degrees although I've not used that feature myself.

I also never used the basic worksharp as I just went and ordered both at the same time.

Pretty much what Rey HRH said... I think the way you sharpen is better (setting the angle with the belt and holding the blade horizontal), no guides that might scuff your blade (if that matters) a bit wider and longer belt, platen to make repairs or flat grind on. Plus it's easier to see what you're doing, and a bit more freehand control.

That said it's not a necessity, I just like it better overall. Some on here freehand sharpen on the stock unit, so just depends on your preference.

I also get better results with the blade grinding attachment. I could never achieve an edge that would cut a free hanging hair..I can with the attachment.

Thanks guys, I'm sold. I'm getting a lot of requests for sharpening services from family members so I plan on getting some practice with their knives. LOL

It gives you much more controle over the edge you are making. The start/stop methode of the standard WS just keeps eating my blades(practicing on a cheap paringknife) with the bga, its way easier to controle what you are doing.
Word of warning........ It eats steel rapidly with the coarse belt on it. Practice before you attempt anyone's precious kitchenknives.

Recently sharpened a really screwed up WW11 machete, in about 10 minutes to razorsharp

I have the KO and the WE.

I find I use the WE more.

I don't however have the KO blade grinding attachment. I've heard good things about it and I'd like to try it.

Same collection of sharpening goods over here.
Also l owned an Ep. I like the We for nice edges on my sebenzas and other pocketknives for a polished and very exact edge.
Sharpening multiple kitchenknives for friends take ages. Thats why l bought the Ws with Bga. Much faster, nice &sharp edge
