Wrong belts - the tool we are talking about uses 1/2" x 12" belts, the ones you quoted are 1/2" x 18" belts. Don't trust the Amazon 'frequently bought together' stuff - they show belts & sanding disks that fit the other Work Sharp knife sharpening tools with the Work Sharp tool that doesn't use them.

This is the right one:

The 6000 grit belt is the "stropping" belt to be used after the lower grit belts have the knife sharp. It will give you a hair shaving sharp edge if done properly. I like the 6000 grit belt I have that is nearly worn out, as it gives a good shinny finish to the blade. The key is to have your knife sharp before using the 6000 belt as it will not remove much metal. Be careful and don't let the edge get too hot, and especially the tip area. Easy to do with this belt.

Well, You guys talked me into it. I now have one on the way. You guys are BAD. ;)
I'm normally a stone, steel, and ceramic stick kind of guy, and can get some wicked sharp edges that way but thought this might be a nice change.

I hope Worksharp are working on a Lithium Battery version (I might put money on that bet!), that would sell probably double or more of the ac model. Add in a 15 degree guide and I'll buy 2 more!

I wouldn't mind having one of these just to get the majority of my re-beveling done before I get down with my other stuff. Even if it's not a perfect "V", or the right angle, as long as it gets me close that would be awesome.

I'm not sure why, but I'm kind of dreading the full re-profile job on the Contego. It's probably that 4" m4 blade. Yeah, that probably has something to do with it. :p

I'm still shaping my knives edges with a stone. I'm worried that if I use the Work Sharp for this I will round the tip. It does seem to do well at honing the blade with the fine belt.

It will quickly round the tip if you don't pay attention. You have to pull the blade tip away about half way across the belt, and not let it run off the edge. Since the belt is only 1/2 inch wide, you have to be careful. I have one and like the results I get with it. If I have a blade to re-profile, I use it to get the new profile set, and then finish it up on the paper wheels. By itself, with the 6000 grit belt, you can turn out some pretty sharp blades. It was all I had before I got my wheels. I have a 6000 belt that is about half worn out then I used to get a good polish on my knives. Again you have to watch, as the high grit belt will heat up the blade if left in one spot too long. Keep the blade moving and you won't have any trouble.

I think a really cool improvement (and should be simple to do) would be to make it variable speed. Also, making it reversible would be nice so you can have the belt pulling off the edge on both sides without pivoting it around.
