worked all day for nothing. made a nice 5 " long hollow grind blade, and i seen what i thought was a little bow , like 1/16 at most when i brought it out of ht, instead of using my hands i grabbed a hammer. well you know what happened. the tip broke off,(grin) like i said all day for nothing.
vern

it was probably to cool by the time i hit it. (learn, learn, learn)

It wasn't for nothin', Vern. It just took a lot of prep-work to get to the important part of that lesson.
You won't make that error again.....

If it's only the tip, it's not a real problem. Just reshape it, it will make a different knife, with an interesting story and design. And you can straighten a quenched and tempered blade with a hammer, but it's a special one, quenched and lightly tempered, the profile of the head must be a V. You hit on the concave side widthwise. It makes a mark on the blade, but if you're carefull, it's erased during normal finish.
