First a little back story. I graduated from college in June, and finally landed a job at Lockheed Martin about 2 months ago and just started my first day on Monday.

So, on Monday, orientation day, they hand out to all of us, an emergency kit! Who would have thunk it?! They have 3 survival/emergency experts on campus specifically to deal with that stuff. It's only meant to be a 12 hour bag so we can take care of our selves while they focus resources on saving/helping those whose lives are at immediate risk. They even suggested that people think about that kind of stuff and duplicate the bag for there homes and cars, and feel free to add to the supplies. They also ongoingly upgrade the contents as well. The only caveat is that the bags and contents are Lockheed Martin property and must stay at our work stations and be returned whenever we leave the company.

Anyways, here are the contents, pretty basic, but at least it's something:

* Survival blanket
* Several packets of emergency water
* Whistle
* Emergency ration
* First aid kit
* Leather gloves
* Shaker flashlight
* A couple dust masks
* Eye goggles
* Eye wash
* Nitrile gloves (kinda like latex)
* Facial tissue
* Black Sharpie
* Little Basic First Aid Book

Not bad for something supplied by your employer, at least they are thinking about this stuff. No knife, but lets face it, I carry at least one all the time.

OH yeah, and one last thing. I just found out today that I can get a Fenix flashlight for FREE!!!:p Man, I always wanted one of those.

Congrats on the new job SR. Was there any explanation given as to why Lockheed Martin is especially concerned with survival issues?

Sounds like a good deal and congrats on the job.

I guess it is more common to safety train employees, kinda a CYA tatic. I got some survival training at my job. Its called HUET(Helicopter Underwater Exit Training). They put you in a mock helicopter fuselage and dunk you in the water and flip you upside down. This was in addition to some basic first aid and disaster training.

This place is a small city in itself, and the way the freeways are situated and full as it is; the concern is that in a natural disaster, or any disaster, you may not even be able to get off the campus. Plus, I imagine they are concerned of a higher risk of other possible problems, being the kind of company that they are.

Aha! Welcome to ... the Club ... young fellow. :cool:

Enjoy your last 2 - 12 months of freedom.

Then ... the Salt Mines!! :grumpy:

[It's not all bad. I'm allowed 5 hrs sleep a night and one whole day off each and every month.]

Hmm... I've heard that there isn't a problem getting overtime there. Oh well, we'll see how it goes. It's better than sitting at home watching John Wayne flix. Or is it?....

I take it you work at a center in VA?

I almost took a job with them when I was getting out of the A.F.

The only thing they had available for a fuel system specialist, was a tank cleaner. The job was also in Saudi, so I passed.

They are in earthquake country. The San Andreas runs mighty close to them.

Congrats on the new job. Got a friend that works there who transferred there from the skunk works about 20 years ago. We still trade emails.

wow.. that is pretty cool nick...:thumbup: who would have thought... glad to hear you're liking it so far...
