Working in the forest - lyme disease

What a lot of wussers (only joking) :D! Come to my neck of the woods in Australia where the paralysis tick is endemic. Now that's a tick.
Referred to as 'wussies' out this way. I've long-time been led to believe every bush snake in Aus is already deadly and now you're telling me ticks there are also bad news?
City Slickers in Aus: Don't get out of your vehicle in the Outback (even to have a pee) or for sure you're gonna die before you're 100.

I will have to get some Permethrin. Flea & Tick shampoo for pets will kill them. This is a most important topic to me as I have been diagnosed with the rare allergy with the delayed reaction with especially red meat.

I have two friends that has the same condition that prevents them from eating mammalian meat. They can eat fish and poultry though. Their physicians said that this condition was from a tick bite.

The condition changed my life. Maybe it is not as rare as they say....1500 cases mostly in the SE.

Permethrin is the ticket for me. I have seen them walk right through insect repellant. They are really bad when they are over head and it don't have to be brush over head for them to rain down on you they can be in rocks also.
I find that short leggings come in handy. I treat them heavy with permethrin and then a little later in the year they are great for keeping the cheat grass out. I am talking about the kind that go over a boot or shoe. Mine are about 4" tall hook to your shoe laces, designed for snow I believe.

PS
Spell checker said there is no such word as leggins.
Just goes to show you they don't know everything.

Thought I'd ask all of you woodsmen out there how you deal with working in tick territory; measures you take, habits of precaution, warnings, etc...

There's a little thing called a "tick key" which you can find here, among other places http://www.leevalley.com/en/garden/page.aspx?cat=2,51555&p=67728

Better than tweezers. Mostly lately I manage to catch them before they move in. Check the dog regularly -- ours is always finding new patches of burrs on the farm but never seems to have ticks.

And maybe the best way is to get a friendly person who's willing to check you for ticks. :D

Haha, come to Australia- where ever darn thing can kill you! Don't even the backyard ants (navy ants?) kill people there? How about those drop bears?

Dangerous things those drop bears, or so we keep telling people, but those ants (fire ants) I think we imported them from the Americas . :)
