Working On A New Hawk Design

Looks very functional. I think maybe a bit longer would be ideal for me. I know that the RMJ shrike was about perfect except it had the scary spike which was too dangerous in the dark. I have been looking for something just like this for carrying on the fire ground. A little bit on the end for prying will be perfect. Is S7 steel an option for you to use? What handle material are you thinking? G10 or micarta would probably be awesome. Lots of folks use horse stall mat on tactical hawks. That is of course highly flammable material.

I`m thinking around $220 for these, right between the Belt Hawk and Spike Hawk in pricing. Steel will be O1, and handles will be oak, micarta, and G10. Longer is no problem.

That is not a bad price at all! I might have to start saving for one of these.

Will you be able to sharpen the beard? That can opener feature works well on the ones that have it. I am excited to see how the first turns out with kydex.

If the design has not been set in stone yet and as someone who has breached a few doors.....

I'd think a hammer would be very useful instead of flat or a spike (on the rear of the blade) (I don't know the name for the back of the hawk blade). I've seen officers use sledges, large ballpeen hammers and numerous other homemade and store bought devices.

In my experience, we small town LEO are always having to buy our own equipment and we've become quite creative. But there's always someone who welds, so we always have something to create splinters with!

Though its funny, we're all pumped up ready to execute a warrant and the younger officers are always ready to smash the shit outta the door. I occasionally lead and run up and just turn the doorknob and open the door. The young officers are always disappointed, LOL.

Actually I did something similiar on one of my hatchet models. A customer wanted to be able to hammer with it, so my past life as a tool and die maker kicked in. I drilled two 1/4" holes through the rear part of the head. Then I made two pieces out of 1/4" stock, drilled two 1/4" holes in one of them, and tapped two 1/4-20 holes in the other. Put one on each side of the rear of the hatchet head, and ended up with a 3/4" wide, removeable hammer head.
