Working on a slipjoint knife

I'm new to knife making and am thinking of trying to make a slipjoint knife. My question is what is a good choice of steel for the back spring?

Usually the spring is made from the same kind of steel as the blade,just tempered back to spring hardness.
Look at Chris Crawfords site for a good tutorial on how to do it.
